When this is over I want to DESTROY China.

Give whatever tax incentive is necessary to bleed them of manufacturing

“Any long term prognostications on the impact to the stock market as a result?”

I think it supports better earnings/higher stock prices for US companies somewhat, but would not by itself be a big market mover long term.

The bigger effects are gaining more security and reliability of our supply chain - avoiding the downsides of ChiCom dominance.

“Just read over at The Washington Times that President is considering stopping payment of funding to the WHO organization.”

If they stop performing their job, fire them.

No sense in paying, if we don’t get a quality product.

“Making our economy dependent on exports too much would not be good.”

indeed ... just look at china ... however, in terms of gross revenue, pharmaceutical exports, even if we supplied a big chunk of the world’s needs, is a drop in the bucket compared to the value of the oil and food that we already export, and yet would have a MUCH greater impact on the balance of U.S. power ...

You said:

“Being the world’s biggest exporter in a way that drastically alters the % of the economy attributable to exports, creates an economy more DEPENDENT ON EXPORTS continuing. That puts an economy at risk domestically from disruptions in the economy(ies) exported to. A downturn in the economies buying from you causes pain in your economy relative to how much your GDP is export dependent/derived.”

I completely disagree with you.

Completely.

100%

From the article:Bunches of US companies are rethinking their supply chain(s) with an eye towards dropping China. That's the least they could do, even if it hurts their bottom line a little bit.

China HOARDS items, in times like right now.

HOARDS them.

China is the LAST country in the entire globe, we want to be dependent on.

A lot of fools in the American political and business elite thought it was just great to strip mine America of its industrial power and send it China.

They made a lot of money out of doing that. They didn’t lose their jobs and they didn’t live in the little Rust Belt towns that were decimated by it.

I’ve been SCREAMING this! At EVERY opportunity DO NOT BUY FROM CHINA.

It’ll take time but this is the biggest weapon we have against this evil regime. I don’t think some realize just how evil they are.

Unless the CONSUMER is demanding that we have options then corporations won’t listen. It takes each and every one of us. A cultural awakening needs to happen, realize just how vulnerable we are to them. Once their economy is the most dominant and they figure they don’t need us anymore what do we think will happen?

We all need to act now and stop this insane force known as the CCP. The writing is on the wall.

“however, in terms of gross revenue, pharmaceutical exports, even if we supplied a big chunk of the world’s needs, is a drop in the bucket compared to the value of the oil and food that we already export”

And yet exports are still only 12% of U.S. GDP. How do you define a “drop in the bucket”. Is 12% a “drop in the bucket” of 100%???

Big Pharma is international and multi-national, manufacturing all over the world and selling all over the world. The only way drug exports from the U.S. would increase greatly would be under a socialist regime that nationalized the drug companies; and I don’t see that happening.

We need to change the law so that profits made overseas can be brought back into the US with minimal tax and fuss.

Me too but more to screw over the American company that off-shored it.

Germany, in the fall of 2019 was heading into recession, because (a) 47% of Germany GDP is exports, and (b) exports from Germany were way down. Ergo, Germany’s domestic economy began to slump due to the relative size of its exports to its GDP - export dependent.

Moving from 1 shithole country to another! Commies control China and Cartels control Mexico. Hey here is a novel idea, why not make it in the US?

I’ll buy American first but am happy to buy from Japan or Singapore if it means not buying products from China.
