“But Hannity told us it was ‘just the flu’!?!?!”

That is BS. Apparently you don’t watch or listen to Hannity. Sounds like you watch or listen to Rachel Maddow or Joy Behar.

US sets grim new global record with 1,480 COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours

In absolute terms, this is a factual statement.

Of course, the USA is the third most populous country on the planet, so you would EXPECT the US to have a large number of X.

If you adjust the daily increases in each country's COVID=19 deaths for its respective total population, the record belongs to tiny San Marino (population of 33,574) which saw 6 deaths on March 21.

For countries with 10MM or more people, the country with the highest daily rise in size-adjusted Coronavirus fatalities is the UK (population of 9,890,400) which saw 569 new fatalities on April 2.

For countries with 50MM or more people, the country with the highest daily rise in size-adjusted Coronavirus fatalities is France (population of 67,076,000) which saw 1,355 new fatalities on April 2.

not to mention that with normal flues, we never shut down the entire nation and made everyone hide fr m the virus either- who knows what the numbers would be if we hadn’t with this virus- I’m curious what is gonna happen when people get back to work, back to jammed inside subways, buses, cabs, trains, planes etc once again- people who were not exposed to the virus coming into contact with infected people- the virus will still be out there- seems like the same thing will happen- a few cases at first- then more, then a bit more, then a lot more- then what? More shut downs?

Same with businesses, now is the time they dump numbers on the books like long term accounts receivable that really should have been written off long ago.

Pretty much all (90%+) of the COVID fatalities are hooked up to a ventilator before passing away...pretty easy to keep the accounting on those viral pneumonia fatalities.

Take out NY and NJ and only 3600 nationwide. Quarantine the city.

Well here is my conspiracy theory. First of all, let me state I think this is just a nasty flu going around, and should be treated the same way we have in the past — that is, NOT shutting down our entire country. I say this having had a nearly 50-year career in acute health care.

The media had little credibility left after the last 4 years of nonsense and lies but by caving into this nonsense, the credibility of the dishonest media has been restored just in time for the next election. You no longer believe conservative journalists or even what the president was saying about this cold/flu 2 months ago — you believe the corrupt MSM.

So here is what I see, after 6 months of this, when Donald Trump runs for his 2nd term, he goes into this election with massive unemployment, shortages of every sort because nobody is working, and near run-away inflation; economic doldrums far worse than Obama’s worst quarter, as well as the newly restored media credibility that I mentioned above.

Worse, you are going to catch this virus anyway, and by the way, almost all of you are just going to come down with a so-so cold. Some frail and mostly elderly individuals with underlying co-morbidities are going to get very sick and some of them are going to die from this, rather than the URI that comes along next week.

And it is NOT slowing down. Not one bit.

We may not be doomed but we are definitely in the shitter.

But it is just the flu according to some.

Some people never learned to count or read a graph.

Some people just don’t have the gray matter to do either.

Maybe they can understand death eventually.

They aren’t wrong, if you’re reasonably healthy. However, even if you’re healthy, you should be wearing gloves and using a mask when out and about to prevent infecting a vulnerable person you might know.

I’m just being truthful. It is called humility, the willingness to see things as they are. I’m willing to state truths as I understand them.

I’m nobody otherwise.

Pointless to debate but I’ll try just this once. It really does not matter anyway. You can do and think what you want to and I’ll do the same. Neither of us or our opinions will change what is happening now so no need to beat each other up. It isn’t even as important as academic bickering.

The flu does not kill at this rate. In just weeks we will soon exceed the death rate of an average flu season. We are at 7,200 now increasing at a clip of well over 1,000 a day, 1,400 today actually. If the death rate remains flat in just 5 more days we will equal the flu death toll of about 12,500 per year.

The deaths today, 1,400 of them are from people who tested positive 5 to 10 days ago when the positive test rate was 9,000 to 10,000. Today it is over 30,000. In two weeks, according to this progression 4,000 to 5,000 a day will die.

I hope there is a skewing of the data in increased testing but I would not bank on that.

Mask and gloves may be the best we can do now. We have lost our chance to stop it early.

Maybe you can see this for yourself.
