He’s a lib, but he has a policy of not getting political on stage. He even says, “Someone works hard to earn money and spends some of it on my show, why should they get attacked by me?” He sometimes slips and says something political, but he has an admirable approach.
I guess his policy of not getting political is slipping. He needs to get back on track.

Because like most liberals, he's bipolar. His song, "The Downeaster Alexa," is at least in part about government regulations (and other factors) that were killing the small family-owned fishing operations, so while he sang about oppressive government killing, "the little guy," he continued to endorse oppressive government politicians.
