Wildfires are raging in Australia. We’re going to get an earful about global warming again because Australia has never been hot or prone to wildfires until Donald Trump won the 2016 election, but that’s a separate matter. ABC News peddled some straight fake news about the natural disaster, superimposing the entire continent onto the United States to show the scale of the disaster. The problem is that it’s not accurate. As some, like Washington Free Beacon reporter Alex Griswold, noted this claim is contradicted in the ABC News article [emphasis mine]:
The raging fires in Australia have burned over 12.35 million acres of land -- with at least 24 people killed and more than 2,000 homes destroyed by the blazes, officials said.
The size of the fires across the country are twice as large as the state of Maryland and bigger than several other states, including Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New Jersey.

Yeah, that map is garbage. And once again, we have another reason to doubt the talking points about global warming peddled by closet communists masquerading as environmentalists: they make stuff up—like this map. NBC News even had to add the global warming spin in its segment but also torpedoed the claim that the entire nation is on fire. It’s not. But some 500 million animals have been killed as well from these fires, which is also tragic.

This is an absurd number. Who has counted them? What is the definition of an animal? Are they including insects?
Animals have terrific abilities to sense danger and fire is one of the fiercest enemies they have. They will vacate the area and head for safety away from the incoming danger. Certainly there are deaths but 500 million is not to me believable.
Remember - some number of the arsonists were paid by the global warming crowd to start the fires under the guise of being compensation for the “photographs” they were then instructed to take once they’d started the fires to blame on global warming. These people are sick!

I read that it was over 200 arrested for arson. Also, it’s estimated that something like 80% + are human-caused, whether intentional or accidental. I’ve long suspected that when wildfires spring up in swarms here in the U.S., esp. California, it’s largely arson. But the authorities (and then the media) won’t report this, for obvious reasons.

In 1957, public service announcements by Smokey the Bear warned that there were so many wildfires in the US, if all put together they would cover the entire state of Louisiana. That is 33.5 million acres burned each year.
Australia’s wildfires this year only total 12.35 million acres of land.

That is still a grossly unfair statement though that paints a very inaccurate picture. 95% of all people seeing that statement are going picture spot, fluffy, and kangaroos and koalas. It was my first thought as well.
By that logic, I would guess millions of “animals” are killed everyday in the U.S. My exterminator’s job is to kill “animals” then.

12,350,000 acres burned which is 19296.9 square miles burned
19296.9/2969907 = .6%

Technically true. The are a class within the Kingdom Animalia. Sponges are likewise considered to be animals but it is disingenuous in the extreme to deliberately throw a number like that out as the media has done without explaining that;

Included in the number are not only mammals but insects as well
