I've been saying for years that we know the future that the left is planning for us when we look at the housing they are building. In my area, most new construction consists of overpriced apartments and condos. The relatively few singly-family houses are at the high-end of the market - large houses on large lots.

Now, they are coming right out and saying it: we don't want middle-class people living in their own homes. In fact, we don't want a middle-class at all. The left has always hated the middle-class, believing it to be unworthy of its comforts, and posing a threat to leftist control and regimentation.

The destruction of private ownership of property is classic Marxism.

It also may reflect writer frustration with big city living.

City dwelling Millenials and Gen Xers are finding that, despite making reasonably good salaries, the multi bedroom apartments and condominiums needed for families are commanding prices in the $750k - $1 million+ price range. Maybe if they could convince the government to just seize the homes and apartments of those old geezers and reallocate them to the “deserving,” population densities will increase and the planet will be saved. So, suddenly private home ownership is bad, racist, fascist, ...ist, .. ist, ... ist!!!
