Are Democrats building a collapsible impeachment?
The Hill ^ | 11/13/2019 | Jonathan Turley

Posted on 11/13/2019 3:52:08 PM PST by Reagan80

As impeachment hearings begin, some have raised dubious objections to the process from a constitutional basis. Former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker suggested there can be no impeachment since “abuse of power” is not a crime, while University of Chicago Law Professor Steven Calabresi argued that President Trump

was denied the Sixth Amendment right to counsel in the closed hearings held by House Democrats.

Neither argument is compelling. The fact is that, if proven, a quid pro quo to force the investigation of a political rival in exchange for military aid can be impeachable, if proven. Yet the more immediate problem for House Democrats may not be constitutional but architectural in nature. If they want to move forward primarily or exclusively with the Ukraine controversy, it would be the narrowest impeachment in history. Such a slender foundation is a red flag for architects who operate on the accepted 1:10 ratio between the width and height of a structure.

Yes, but are they alleged, or are they real?

In this case, there is actually no quid pro quo. President Trump did not condition any outcome on the Ukrainians investigating. The course of events proves this conclusively.

It is normal inter-nation intercourse, with less coercion than has become the norm.

Turley is a Lib; but a brilliant legal analyst. He’s only saying that (with two “if proven* qualifiers in the same sentence; that a ‘quid pro quo’ is impeachable if proven - which - strictly speaking, is true.

Political rivals are immune from legitimate investigations??

Of course not.

I believe you’re correct. The ‘rats fantasy of removing President Trump died a slow death with Mueller as he was unable to find anything even remotely useful. Given the strength of the economy, the unheralded successes President Trump is having across the board... The ‘rats have no real hope of defeating him in 2020 using conventional means. This is all about damaging him in the public eye. As you say, on our dime.

Zelensky says he was not aware of any quid pro quo, so how is there such an accusation if the supposed target is not aware of any quid pro quo? Your opening premise is foolishness.

Taylor and Kent's testimony today was DAMNING..

DAMNING TO THEMSELVES because they ADMITTED to being guilty of SEDITION/TREASON for DISALLOWING President Trump's RIGHT TO DICTATE U.S. FOREIGN POLICY.

Taylor and Kent, the first two "witnesses". LOCK THEM BOTH UP for their BETRAYAL to President Trump and REFUSING to execute HIS foreign policy!

This was the YUGE take away from today!

Dems know that just the constant talk of impeachment and the ongoing impeachment circus in the House of Representatives will soil the president enough to keep some democrat voters from wandering off the plantation.

And may help swing some undecideds their way.

As usual their filthy tactics rely on the leftist media to carry their FAKE NEWS to the public.

I'll post here my slightly adapted reply to another questioner in a thread at PredictIt:

"As I understand it, the Democratic Party has been essentially hijacked by its far-left base, and Nancy Pelosi, the Botox-faced representative of the old Democratic party, is struggling desperately to manage what would otherwise almost certainly be an electoral disaster for vulnerable Democrats in 2020. She probably wants if at all possible to let the screeching leftists work out their fury and hatred for a decent president in an orgy of childish name-calling and manufactured slurs, after which the impeachment movement finally peters out into a "resolution of strong disapproval" or some such meaningless jackass blaring that falls far short of an actual up-or-down vote on impeachment. Whether the clever, manipulative b***h can pull it off is very much an open question."

"In any case, I gravely doubt this year will see outright impeachment. The process demands its time in the darkness of incessant lying and closed meetings by giggling Democratic partisans who gleefully leak wildly distorted smears that quickly fall apart under scrutiny. You'll see months more of sound and fury that signifies nothing. It's anyone's guess whether the lunatic left will finally manage to ram through their hearts' desire by April Fools' Day of next year. You places yer bets and takes yer chances."

Heated politics (and my intense loathing for communists and their tactics) aside, I find this whole exercise a bit fascinating.

I see it not as a Constitutional crisis of the checks and balances between the Legislative and the Executive but more as a "Test" of those boundaries.

Up until now, the opposition has never had the balls (or stupidity) to pursue election nullification based on, basically, nothing more than their unhinged desire to do so. Up until now the opposition always had an actual crime to use as a foil while attempting to crush their political rival in a co-equal branch.

And even in those past situations, the results have been decidedly mixed. So what on earth would propel the idiot Dims to pursue this battle now, when the premise is not even plausible and the stakes so high?? Insanity? Insatiable lust for power?

Taking down Trump is part of the equation.....the other part more importantly is ‘keeping secure and to protect their operations.... their ‘permanent’ bureaucratic power.... which is of course highly threatened by Trump and this administration.....

Pretty much all of this opposition to Trump and his agenda is to hide and defend their ‘independence’ of operating secretly away from the American Peoples knowledge.... For them they must accomplish taking out Trump ‘before’ voters have a chance to re-elect him.

In one sense this impeachment is a blessing in disguise for while they play this game in the mud, they're fast sinking in, thus that gives our guys ‘time’ to get their ducks in the row setting traps they'll surely walk right into......thus they're self-revealing the thugs, cheaters and diabolical characters that they are.....

In the meantime....our Attorneys, Judges, Prosecutors etc., working heavily behind the scenes, will be well prepared to act when the time comes....and that House of Thieves will fall.

Now if we do our part and be patient as the winds change and or creep along.....we'll all be better for it .

God works in his time frames ....not ours.

There needs to be an investigation into the Democrat Party to see if any of them has ties to America.

For months that video was out on Biden. Millions of us were like "WTF"??? Trump is not a social media dufas. He saw it too.

So did the media, only they are STILL covering it up. Like the spy who came out of the cold with a whistle up his ass. And Youtube is suddenly making it VERY HARD to find a clip of Biden bragging about his crime now.

“There’s more to it than that.
If the House calls for articles of impeachment and Trump is impeached, Trump will be branded, wearing the “Impeached” moniker for the rest of his life, and go down in history as impeached (like Clinton).”

Well, not exactly. The damage is not to Trump. He will be known as the president that was wrongfully impeached over fictional nonsense. It won’t be damaging to him at all. Quite the opposite.

:) Isn't it ironic? ... In truth, we don't need an investigation to answer that question.

What Political Rival? Is Shotgun Joe Biden the Groping Pedo the Democrat Nominee?

If he and his Son robbed a Bank while he was Vice President nobody could go pressure someone else who was withholding evidence to release it?

The world is upside down. If POTUS Trump could pick the Rat Nominee he would pick Biden.
