Topping both lists—for the least traveled and most scenic— is Dalton Highway, which ferried an average of just 196 vehicles each day in 2015. (By comparison, the Alaska Highway saw an average of 344 vehicles per day, according to 2016 data.) Other least traveled roads include routes in Nevada, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Interesting. Originally published in March of last year. Probably some of these are best left for the warmer months of the year. In any case, food for thought if you want to get away. We've seen some mighty lonely stretches here in NV and did Hwy 50 a few years ago.

There are some decent road trip books that detail some of these roads. I’ve driven cross country a few times using those guides. It’s a magnificent experience. I encourage EVERY person to spend time in the US before hitting the beaches of Mexico or the crowds of Europe.

My street is pretty quiet. There is a dog sleeping on it right now.

The Road Not Taken
By Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference...............

The least travelled road is the one Democrat’s use to get to common sense.

Ours was until the built a new subdivision at the top of the street. Now the 25 mph residential zone is broken easily all day long. Sigh! Couldn’t find any endangered salamanders to plant near the development.............

There is a considerable amount of nothing on CA SR 139. Watch for cows on the road...

Nice site.

I’ve been on one of those roads. I was on US 219 in western Maryland, on my way to visit the Fairfax Stone, which marks the headwaters of the Potomac River. As I recall, I saw very few other cars on the road. And I was the only visitor at the Fairfax Stone park in the middle of a summer day. I know it’s not a huge tourist attraction, but still I thought it odd, I was the only person there.

I try to avoid doing anything in kali. Even the conservative areas which actually (as I’m sure you know) make up most of the eastern side of the state. I’ve often commented to Mrs rktman “Too bad it’s California” because there are lots of awesome places. But, there’s plenty of awesome places right here.

Yep, that’s a very poor map. For instance, one tiny stretch in Nevada? And Montana? It’s a pitiful map.

I have been on the Dalton Highway up to the Arctic Circle and while not busy there were a lot of trucks traveling the highway.

LOL! Done some driving on the eastern side of NV on the way to Hwy 50 from Las Vegas. If you have a problem in some of those areas.....probably not gonna have a good outcome. No cell, probably limited CB contacts. But some surprising places that just seem to pop up.
