Republicans urge Bevin to provide proof of election fraud or ‘let it go’ and concede
Lexiington Herald Leader ^ | November 7, 2019 | Daniel Desrochers

Posted on 11/07/2019 1:08:35 PM PST by Coronal

A growing number of Republican lawmakers are urging Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, a fellow Republican, to either provide evidence of the voting “irregularities” he has alleged or concede Tuesday’s election to Gov.-elect Andy Beshear, who defeated him by 5,189 votes.

“The best thing to do, the right thing to do, is for Governor Bevin to concede the election today so we can move on,” said Rep. Jason Nemes, R-Louisville.

Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, first raised the possibility of the tight election being decided by the Republican-led legislature Tuesday night when he explained the process that would occur if Bevin decided to challenge the results of the race. Bevin bolstered that speculation Wednesday by claiming that thousands of absentee ballots were counted illegally without presenting any proof to back up his claim.

Republicans in the legislature aren’t buying it.

Nemes said he has not seen much support for an election challenge among his Republican colleagues in the House, largely because the governor has not backed up his claims. None of the lawmakers the Herald-Leader spoke to Thursday said they had seen evidence to support Bevin’s claims.

They don’t call the GOP the Doormat Party for nothing. It’s well earned by surrender monkeys like this guy.

I think there was a libertarian candidate that took a lot of votes.

And libertarian Rand Paul didn't say a word about Bevin at the Trump rally.

Things might have been different if he did.

From what I've seen, the guy sure didn't conduct himself in office like someone who was interested in being re-elected.

I'd say the Ohio-Kentucky toll bridge issue destroyed his campaign. He might have survived if the toll itself was the only issue, but he came out publicly in support of the toll just weeks before the election after promising in 2016 to sign a state bill that prohibited such a toll.

This is what is known in politics as an amateur, tone-deaf move.

I believe he has to provide evidence of irregularities in order to get a recount. And if he can’t do that then I doubt the legislature can step in and change the results of the election.

"But in the end he lost.... fraud or third parties are not why.... he was a bad candidate, who lost... he angered and alienated too many voters... every other GOP for statewide won by 100k or more... He lost, that’s not fraud, that’s a bad candidate."

Admittedly, I don't follow local KY politics much, but if Bevin really was that much of a horribly bad candidate, why in the world would Trump want to put his name on that turd and try to drag it across the finish line?

Either Trump got some seriously bad advice that it would be a great idea to go stump for the looser...or Trump himself made a very bad decision.

I'm hoping it's not the latter! If it's the former, he needs to reevaluate his political relationship with that adviser.

These Republican’ts make my blood boil. 5,000 votes is pretty small. Play it out. Force a recount.

Stacey Abrams lost by over 50,000 votes and still hasn’t conceded!!!!!!

“You aren’t making up 5k votes with fraud allegations folks... Bevin lost... He was behind the entire race... he angered and disenfranchised too many voters.

Nothing more complicated or nefarious than that.”

Perhaps all true but fight, scratch , be a fly in the ointment, whatever it takes to cause problems for the Dims. There’s a term for what it is....payback.

There's no downside to President Trump endorsing and supporting a GOP candidate who may be unpopular but isn't scandal-ridden.

Heck -- Trump did the exact same thing with Roy Moore in Alabama in 2017. If he could support that jackass, he can certainly support Matt Bevin.

The irony here is that Bevin seems like he was a very effective governor, but an ineffective politician.

It is TYPICAL when the Governor is as unpopular s Bevin is...

You do realize he was down 17 points just a few weeks ago, its a miracle, and a statement to TRUMP’s ability to get votes that he got within a few thousand votes.

You aren’t making up 5k votes with fraud allegations folks... Bevin lost... He was behind the entire race... he angered and disenfranchised too many voters.

><><

Good post.

Yes, it’s remarkable how Trump got the vote out for him, the most unpopular governor in the country.

Nothing more complicated or nefarious than that.
