Lessons from Kentucky, Mississippi and Virginia elections may not be what you think

ANALYSIS — Voters in Kentucky, Mississippi, and Virginia were gracious enough to go to the polls on Tuesday and give us some tangible results to chew over with 12 months to go before the 2020 elections. Here are some thoughts.

Kentucky was not an upset. Inside Elections changed its rating on the governor’s race from Lean Republican to Toss-up in mid July after finding Gov. Matt Bevin very vulnerable. So those who were surprised by Democrat Andy Beshear’s declared victory weren’t paying close enough attention.

Trump was an asset, not a liability. Without a last-minute push and visit from President Donald Trump, Bevin would have probably lost by a wider margin. The decision to urge Kentucky voters to see their ballots as sending a message to the nation as a whole was the right strategy for the governor and Republicans. It just wasn’t enough to solve Bevin’s problems.

Exactly... Bevin was polling 17 points behind just a few weeks ago... Trump holds 1 rally and he comes up a few thousand votes short... and every other statewide R wins by bigger margins than last election...

THe idea TRUMP is a liability is nonsense.. but let the left keep thinking they can win....

Unpopular governor nearly got a second term PURELY off of TRUMP’s coattails when he wasn’t even on the ballot!

It should be particularly concerning for President Trump in his efforts to win Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, and Texas in 2020.

The suburbs are an issue.

The Dims won some special elections in 1983 too.

The year before Reagan won re-election by a yuge landslide winning 49 states. (That's out of 50 states, not 57.)

Let’s worry about that bridge when we come to it. A lot of things can happen in a year.

And we Deplorables aren’t out for the count yet.

He called for a toll bridge between N. KY and Cincinnati. Given the potential impact on the road network there, he’s lucky if he got single vote in those three counties.

Of course not, but it's time to roll up the sleeves and especially get the GOP party united and aggressive.

This is suspicious. No one has explained why Bevin was in trouble.

“The Dems are just damn good at getting out the vote. There’s no reason that we should be losing ANY of these elections.”

The Republicans in Colorado don’t even try. My town is run by Boulderite cat-ladies.

Sasse has voted with Trump 87% of the timê, he just likes to shoot off his mouth. Considering say, Chuck Hagel, are you sure you can do better than Sasse?

“Low-information voters are a majority of the population.”

How bout them Broncos? That’s what I hear in my office.

Personality and local issues. He was widely disliked. He ran worse relative to the rest of the GOP ticket, who all won.

He seems to have the reputation of being an obnoxious SOB. That probably was cultivated by the Lexington and Louisville media which is bad as the NYT, as I understand. I haven’t lived there in 30 years.

I think the Republicans came out to vote as all the other state office were won by Republicans with wide margins. Only Bevin had a problem.

Bevin just p*ssed a lot of conservatives off. They cast a protest vote for Beshear.

I am talking about the federal level...

Virginia has been invaded by federal employees.

The red states are slowly being invaded by democrats fleeing states they ruined...

Unless the working class democrats wake up nothing will change

Trump may change the GOP into the working peoples party..and bring in democrats..
