9 GOP Senators Refuse to Condemn House Impeachment
The Hill ^ | October 24, 2019

Posted on 10/25/2019 2:13:00 AM PDT by Helicondelta

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is spearheading the resolution, which is backed by 44 GOP senators including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Graham, during a press conference with reporters, lashed out the House impeachment inquiry calling it a "secret proceeding" and a "rogue action" that "denies due process."

"The process in the House today I think is a danger to the future of the presidency," Graham told reporters.

He argued that under the current procedure Trump was "pretty much shut out," adding "God help future presidents."

The GOP senators not cosponsoring the resolution as of Thursday afternoon, according to a list from Graham's office, are: Sens. Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Rob Portman (R-Ohio).

I see it is the usual stalwart stars of the RINO party. Isn’t it amazing how it is always those people? Isn’t it amazing how the people in those states keep voting for them over and over.

I thought it takes a super majority to convict in the Senate. The impeachment train is off the tracks but the Durham Express is rolling out!!

This resolution isn’t about whether Trump should be impeached. It is about whether or not the impeachment process should be fair and open. Voting for this resolution wouldn’t mean you are against impeaching this president , or any future president for that matter. It is more of a statement about the future. Are these the standards we want from now on and are we going to set this kind of precedent for the impeachment process? Just like the nuclear option Harry Reid used in a first strike attack, there will be a time certain down the road when the left will regret going down this path

Lamar is retiring. Recommend Dr. Manny Sethi for Senate for Lamar’s seat.

Would Doug Jones of Alabama be a “yes” to convict vote for the RATS? He’s up in 2020.

And Manchin?

Simple folks...GOP Senate leader, Mitch McConnell needs to grow a spine of substance in his back and bring the GOP Laggards into line..period. Is McConnell the leader of the GOP caucus in the Senate or, is he just a whimp, hiding in the corner? McConnell, the time is here for strong powerful, absolute, leadership...get with the program deadbeat, McConnell!!

Every Republican Senator and Democrat Joe Manchin should support and vote for the Graham resolution..period!!!

Boy did you misunderstand me.

Absolutely, they should hold the hearings in public. If they succeed in removing a duly elected President when no crime has been committed , there then yes the American Experience is dead. Mob rule will be our new form of “government “.

I don’t necessarily approve of all of Trump’s policies ( in fact I have major disagreements with several of them) but I voted for him in 16 and will definitely vote for him again in 20 given the alternatives. I never will vote for anyone with a D next to their name . I am definitely a RINO but definitely NOT for the reasons most of the people in these parts may think; on economic matters the GOP leadership is too far left for me.

My only point is not to idolize politicians. Most of the time the choice is the lesser of two evils. At the same time I try to stay loyal to the constitution and the concept of smaller government. Capisce?

Collins voted for the Trump tax cuts.

She voted for Neil Gorsuch and Brent Kavanaugh, and the overwhelming majority of the president’s other judicial picks.

Otherwise, meh.

A friend of mine knows Susan Collins. He told me years ago, “She’s a nice lady, she’s just not very conservative.”

Me thinks these hold-out GOPe senators are holding out for some pork for their respective states. You know, bribes.
