Wow, surprising. I'll bet the property taxes in OK are far less than ours are though.
We live in a little Oklahoma town of about 3500 people, in our 1000 square foot “fixer upper”. Our real estate taxes are $200 a YEAR. I would say that close to a third of the property here is rental property. The landlords who own them, refuse to vote for tax increases, and, believe it or not, only property owners are allowed to vote in local elections.
But, it’s quiet here, the crime rate is low, and consists mostly of drunks or druggies dealing with each other. 1 murder in the last 15 years, rape is rare (1-3 a year), as are robberies. Nearly everyone protects their homes with firearms, and everyone knows it. Burglary rate’s about 1%, other than that, most other thefts consist of shoplifting.
It may be boring, but the price is right, and we’re getting up there in years, so we don’t mind the quiet. We’re 20 miles from a small city, and 50 miles from a metropolitan area.
