My guess about the late Mr. Epstein’s taste for orgies is that it was only partially sexual in origin. After all, a man in his situation could have paid for any amount of sex, of any kind, in private. What he really enjoyed (I surmise) is corrupting others—and not just others, but prominent and powerful others. He enjoyed being, or playing, Mephistopheles, quite apart from any sexual gratification he may have had on the way.

Somehow, I think that Epstein was an entrepreneur in the lucrative business of blackmail and general corruption. I believe that will turn out to be how he made his money, if, that is, the truth about him is allowed to come out. The FBI is surely involved here and some of its own were surely involved with Epstein complicating further the normal procedure for the FBI never never allowing the truth to see the light of day when it involves itself in any investigation other than straight forward crimes with no possible political implications.

In life he delighted in producing & distributing pamphlets to corrupt the young, not merely to relish his own individual evil acts. But he asked for forgiveness. Absolutely - plenty of countries he could have gone to and ‘bought’ whatever he wanted. But he did not.
Not necessarily, rich business folk are cheap with their own money, my bet is the “expenses” are paid in corporate account travel packages and btw a tell tale for iinvestigators
Never having been cursed with the possession of illimitable wealth I can only speculate, but it strikes me that over and above any particular attraction to underage sexual partners is the feeling of pure transgression without consequence. People of lesser clout do not get invitations to orgy islands, after all (well, I never have). Progressive social activists have so raised the bar on the transgressive that kiddie sex, cannibalism, and human sacrifice are about the only forbidden fruit available. Orgies between consenting adults have become pretty plebian.
Still, when the transgression in question involves other human beings it's a little like juggling with live hand grenades. Not only the victims, but one's fellow perpetrators become a mortal hazard and the manipulator behind it all becomes the prime target, as Epstein discovered. The moment he heard the bars clang he had to know they'd reach him.
