VP Pence was called back to the WH to deal with an emergency. He was on AF2, going to an event in Salem NH. The event has been cancelled.

Exactly. The Russians always handle their affairs internally. And even if were a radiation event, they've already towed the sub back to port. Evacuation/decontamination would be handled by the Russsians alone. Plus, I believe it was their North Fleet HQ where the sub got tied up. About the closest we'll ever get to that would be Google Earth. LOL

This should be easy to verify. Like any commercial aircraft AF Two must be visible to and under the control of FAA ATCs. Those radio transmissions are on public frequencies. There are likely 1000s of folks who follow ATC conversations. So if true or false the evidence is in the open. I sometimes listen to the NYC Metro controllers in Westbury on my lttle C Crane Skywave. If AF 2 never left or did indeed turn around we should know soon.

Yes that sub was in Russian territorial waters at the time of the incident and has been towed to a port in Mermansk. We ain’t gettin nowhere near it.

Whatever is going on with FEST has nothing to do with the sub accident.

I just watched the old news coverage. I misremembered the Bush is MIA stuff, they said in order

1. Reagan is fine and was not hit
2. Actually he was hit under the arm and may need surgery but it didn't hit his heart and he's in no danger
3. The Vice President had been in Texas and was en route somewhere ("we're not sure what was next on his itinerary but regardless" he's diverted back to DC and we don't know when he'll arrive
4. Actually, it is in fact a chest wound and he got a transfusion and they are doing surgery now but we don't know how serious it is
5. All of the key cabinet personnel are heading to the hospital now
6. Haig did a presser and said "I've been in contact with the VP..." and "I am in control at the White House"

That's what unfolded on live TV. So Bush wasn't MIA, he was just invisible as the President's condition was seemingly getting worse. Furthermore, the White House apparantly had worse info than the press as the Press Secretary didn't know Reagan had been taken into surgery, and the press was grilling him like "is all your information going to be this late?" It was a pretty uncertain time.

Bottom line: Haig was trying to reassure people that the country had leadership, that we weren't adrift. Bush couldn't. Reagan couldn't. Haig did. He wasn't trying to claim power.

Pease Air National Guard Lockdown Lifted After Unfounded Report Of Shots Fired

NEWINGTON, N.H. (CBS) – Pease Air National Guard Base was placed on lockdown for about an hour on Tuesday after a report of an active shooter. Police said they searched the New Hampshire base but did not find any evidence of a shooting.

The lockdown was put in place around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. An “all clear” was given just after 12:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported and police from Portsmouth and Newington said there is no threat to the community.

Newington Police and the Air National Guard are investigating the incident.
