Repo Man Says NYPD Still Punishing Him After He Tried To Tow Detective's Car
NY-1 News ^ | June 11, 2019 | Amanda Farinacci

Staten Island repo man Jose Rodriguez checks up on his tow truck several times a day.

It's been sitting idle on Richmond Terrace for nearly two weeks, immobilized after cops put an orange boot on it when he tried to repossess an NYPD detective's car.

Not having the truck, Rodriguez says, has cost him thousands of dollars in earnings.

"I gotta get the truck out there. I have to get these cars for the banks," he says.

The NYPD could not explain to NY1 why Rodriguez has not been allowed to reclaim his vehicle.

The repo man says it's another example of cops punishing him for doing his job.

NY1 previously reported that on May 30, police blocked Rodriguez from towing the detective's Nissan Maxima, which was wanted by a bank because of three missed car payments.

The officers arrested Rodriguez on a felony charge of possessing of stolen property, and he spent more than 20 hours in jail before being released.

"It shoulda never happened,” Rodriguez says. “They shoulda never charged me with stealing the police officers car because it never happened."

The NYPD tells NY1 it is now conducting an "internal review" of the matter.

The department would not say if a full-fledged investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau is under way.

During this week's Mondays with the Mayor segment on NY1, we asked Mayor de Blasio whether the incident could be considered an abuse of power.

"If it is that kind of thing, it would be unacceptable. There would be huge consequences for those cops,” de Blasio said.

“You can't show that amount of favoritism as a member of the NYPD.

So again, I'm not here to pre-judge cause I don't know the details, but one of the things we have to do for all New Yorkers is show that no one is above the law."

When Rodriguez was released from jail, police dropped the felony charge against him, but then slapped him with misdemeanor charges of falsifying documents and possession of police scanners, allegations he denies.

And Rodriguez says police still have not returned the phone, laptop, iPad and cameras they confiscated from him, as well as his truck.

Rodriguez is due back in court June 26. He's hoping he gets his truck back before then.

Arrested for Trying to Repossess an NYPD Detective’s Car, SI Repo Man Gets His Tow Truck Back

By Amanda Farinacci
Jun. 14, 2019

The repo man is back: Jose Rodriguez was behind the wheel of his tow truck Friday, a little over two weeks after police seized it when he tried to repossess a detective’s car.

“It was a good feeling to get my truck back,” Rodriguez told NY1. ...”

Rodriguez has promised to clear up all of the violations on his truck: a missing front license plate, tinted windows and a lack of signage.

Ironically, Rodriguez’s company, Finest Towing and Auto Body, is a huge supporter of the NYPD. Rodriguez’s partner’s truck is decorated in NYPD blue, and the company has donated more than $20,000 to the Blue Lives Matter movement since September.

This proves it was an abuse of power by police. Being a cop doesn’t exempt you from paying your car payments.

More to the point, can you imagine being a New Yorker today with this kind of PD and a Communist Mayor who has children with a Black Lesbian to whom he gives nearly a million bucks of the taxpayers money to pi$$ away?

I’d feel sorry for him, I’d be enraged towards police who abused their powers, but no signage on the truck, tint that’s pretty much in violation of just about any state’s regs, and no front license plate. You wanna make yourself a target, don’t complain when someone hits the bullseye.

I hear the reward for a 64 Chevelle Malibu sedan is 20,000. As soon as I find that Chevy I’m going indy. I’m going to buy myself a tow truck, a couple of pitbulls, and run a yard.

The plate was blacked out on photoshop. The tint is acceptable where I live, and judging by some of the vehicles in the background, it looks like it meets the standard. I’ve seen limos where much darker tinting. Is there a law in NY that the vehicle has to be signed if it is used in a privately contracted business? I doubt it.

That kind of P.D. is everywhere. Cops abuse power everywhere. It’s certainly not a problem exclusive to any one big city. Or large town. Or small town. Or tiny township. Let’s face it. Police work is corrupt. Always has been. Since the first town guard asked for something extra to let someone through the gate after dark.

Hundreds of NYPD officers snub NYC Mayor De Blasio

De Blasio & co. have turned the streets against the NYPD

By Patrick J. Lynch
Aug 22, 2018

Mayor Bill de Blasio and the rest of our city’s political establishment say they’re shocked and disgusted by the recent videos of abuse directed at police officers.

That leaves most police officers wondering: What, exactly, were they expecting?

What did they think would happen when they campaigned on the promise of “reining in” the police, when they legitimized and then ceded the streets to the most extreme voices, the ones who proclaim “all cops are bad”?

What did they think would happen when they enacted policies that all but erased prohibitions on disorderly and anti-social behavior, reducing the quality-of-life standards in our neighborhoods to the lowest common denominator?

What did they think would happen when they saddled police officers with layer after layer of scrutiny and second-guessing, removed critical enforcement tools from police officers, invited and entertained baseless allegations of misconduct with the potential to derail police officers’ careers and sacrificed individual cops at the altar of political expediency?

Did they think that any of this would foster respect for the law — or the women and men who enforce it?

We have warned again and again that the environment police officers face on the street has been growing increasingly hostile, that the most basic interactions don’t even escalate into confrontations — they begin that way, before the first cops on the scene have even uttered a single word. ...”

Giuliani did such an outstanding job as mayor here in NYC, that the substantial improvements he made still exist to this day, particularly as it relates to street crime and the Mafia. So even with this anti-cop communist jerk holding the position today, the streets and business environment is still comparatively safe. Again, despite him.
