The first openly gay general at the Air Force Academy has been removed as commandant of cadets, but leaders there were mum Monday on the exact cause of the apparent firing.

Brig. Gen. Kristin Goodwin, who led military training at the academy since 2017, was removed from her role as commandant amid an investigation, the school confirmed Monday.

“He got a Presidential Nomination and still was not accepted? There’s something going on there.”

A Presidential nomination is not exactly what it sounds like. It is not a nomination from the President.

Children (biological or adopted) whose parent has served as a career officer or enlisted personnel in the U.S. Armed Forces, active or reserve, including the Coast Guard, are eligible for the Presidential nomination. A parent serving on active duty (other than for training) must have served continuously for at least eight years or have been retired with pay or granted retired or retainer pay. A parent in the reserves must be serving as a member of a reserve component and be credited with at least eight full years of service (a minimum of 2880 points) or must be entitled to retired pay except that he or she is not yet sixty years old. An unlimited number of Presidential nominations can be granted each year for those eligible. However, only one hundred appointments may by appointed from this nomination category.

Depends on the level of leadership and the woman. In the rush to promote women, many dad chooses were made. True leaders are everywhere but if you make a vagina a requirement at the top of the list then things get screwed up.

Honestly I feel bad for the 30+ year old women following behind the 50 year old affirmative action hires. People think they get the job via plumbing not merit. Same with any affirmative action hiring. Loss of respect. Let the best win and people will respect it regardless of color, sex age .....

There will come a time when America will be called upon to use our forces as intended by the Constitution.

When we sustain unnecessary mission failures, some will have the courage to identify the root cause.

When victory is necessary for survival, the truth will out.

This sentence fragment contains EVERYTHING anyone needs to know to understand the cause of this kerfuffle and the erosion of traditional military ethos at the academy.

I am a USAF retiree. My son couldn’t get into the Academy, so he is in OTS as we speak, and will get his commission just the same. It used to be where Academy grads were regular officers, where ROTC and OTS grads were reserve officers. USAF, and I figure all the services, changed up. They are all regular officers now.

Not necessarily so.

Saw too many females get through the program only because they had a Samsonite handle stapled to her back.

Thought all OTS grads were reserve commission then when promoted to captain they were usually made regular.

That’s how I remember it decades ago when I was in OTS. . .back in the day when Orville and Wilber gave guest lectures. . .

More than ever I am convinced that all combat aircraft should be pilotless. That would reduce the number of cadets to be trained.

Since my son will soon train to be an RPV pilot (remotely piloted vehicle) I don’t think that is true. A pilot is still flying the aircraft, but is just doing it from Creech AFB. I think it has actually led to an increase in the number to be trained. There is a huge backlog of officers waiting to get into drone pilot training.

The history of Airbus A3X0s and Boeing's latest 737 suggests otherwise.

No, she was there when I was, one year behind in ‘93. Also the same year as the illustrious Kelly Flinn. The Air Force has serious problems these days and the Academy has become a shell of its former glory. Lt Gen Silveria is probably the worst Superintendent in the history of USAFA and the institution has become PC beyond belief. This is what happens when you use the military as a social experiment and a breeding laboratory for gender equity. My guess, and just a guess, is that there was an inappropriate relationship with a female subordinate. The military has had hardasses and disagreeable officers forever. That rarely gets you relieved of command. Inappropriate conduct always will.

Persistence in immorality, like sexual perversion, brings (or is) mental illness. The US was safer when the sexually perverse were forced out of the military.

That’s exactly how it WAS. Not that way anymore. I had a friendly disagreement with my son on this. I said the same thing you did, but he assured me things have changed. They are ALL regular officers now. Since I was an enlisted guy, I really couldn’t have cared less whether a guy was a regular or reserve officer. They were all the same to me.

check out chapter 2, second paragraph. It spells it all out. My son was right. I was wrong.
Since I was enlisted, I gave him an earful on the enlisted troops. I think he knows the USAF couldn’t operate without the enlisted troops. After all, they do all the work. 😁

I agree.

We had an ec=vent a few weeks ago that was apparently headed up by a low lever female who somehow thought she was the boss.

It was a trade show that we had been at for several days. About 30 minutes before close, we started packing up and she pulled the “I’m in charge and you pack up when I say you pack up” routine. Everyone else in the are was senior to her, some were far senior, like Director level senior. She said her piece and walked away. Without saying a word, we all began to pack up.
