Jurors cry as prosecutor describes fatal attack on officers

The trial of a man charged with killing two Southern California police officers in an ambush-style attack began with tears Wednesday, as jurors cried when the prosecutor in the case held up the AR-15 rifle used in the killings and described the fatal wounds.

Prosecutor Manny Bustamante told jurors in opening statements that admitted gang member John Hernandez Felix targeted the officers simply because they were police. Some cried as he spoke of their wounds.

Palm Springs Officers Lesley Zerebny and Jose "Gil" Vega were killed while responding to a domestic violence call at Felix's mother's house on Oct. 8, 2016. Prosecutors

Six other officers were injured as police and Felix exchanged gunfire in the residential neighborhood in Palm Springs, more than 100 miles (161 kilometers) east of Los Angeles. Felix was arrested after a lengthy standoff.

Felix's attorney told jurors that his client has low intelligence and was on drugs at the time of the crime.

He said it's Felix's intent that's "the controversy in this case."

Felix's parents described him as lazy and later angry when on drugs, but never violent, Dolan said. The only time Felix's mother said she feared her son was the day of the attack.

ega, a father of eight, was a 35-year veteran months away from retirement when he was killed. He wasn't scheduled to work the day he died but had volunteered to fill the shift.

Zerebny was a rookie officer just back from maternity leave.

I really like it if we had a torture penalty or a death penalty that started with that.

The Middle Ages has some weapons and tactics that can be very useful for today.

Fair trial.

First class hanging

In that order.

State Attorney General Xavier Bacerra is responsible for these deaths and the many more that will follow in the coming years. He is a dangerous man and should be held civilly and criminally liable for each death.

How About Some "Old Time" Justice!

Click The Pic
....in a few short weeks it will be spring. The snows of winter will flow away, the ice will vanish, the air will become soft and balmy.
The annual miracle of the years will awaken and come to pass.
The rivulet will run its soaring course to the sea.
The timid desert flowers will put fourth their tender shoots.
The glorious valleys of this imperial domain will blossom as the rose.
From every tree top, some wild songster will carol his mating song.
Butterflies will sport in the sunshine.

But you will not be here to enjoy it. Because I command the sheriff of the county to lead you away to some remote spot, swing you by the neck from a bough of some sturdy oak and let you hang until you are Dead, Dead, Dead!
You cold-blooded, blood-thirsty, throat-cutting, murdering son of a bitch!

.....Judge Roy Bean

NB:There are several versions of Judge Roy Bean's words in this case and also the person who he was passing judgment upon.

Hmmm. Link works for me, but try this. Same story different outlet.

It’s always a bad sign for one side’s case when the jurors are crying. At least the court reporter wasn’t weeping. That’s a very bad sign.

Try using that excuse if you hit a pedestrian with your car, vato.

Would the prosecuter have hoisted it up if it had been a Colt Python .357 ? Friggin' theatrics at the expense of the two slain officers. 😡

If they jurors are crying in response to the prosecutors opening remarks, it would seem it is going that way.

That’s what I thought too - they were probably crying because of that evil black gun. “If only those guns....”

As I sit here in Mexiforinicate, CA, I know the result of the case.
Guilty of second degree murder, 25 to life.
Death penalty is a joke here in CA, kill away, and you get three hots and a cot for the rest of your life. What a state!
Prayers for the young mother and the father of eight children. May the survivors’ lives be free of harm and live in peace. Suggestion: Move away, far away from this stinking state.

Sort of like the trespasser here in the Reno area that killed 4 folks. Needed drug money and use stolen weapons to kill folks he had worked for.

THX!

I’m sorry for the parents that they ended up with a violent mentally ill son but I’m more sorry by far for the people who paid the price for society letting him walk around freely.

I was in Med. School in the early 80’s.

Prior to the 80’s the mentally ill were committed.

When I was in in school the big thing was “privacy rights” cuz HIV was coming to light but some how the mentally ill got pulled into it. And all of a sudden you could no longer commit people who really needed help.

None of us ever understood at the time why the two were mashed together but as far as I’m concerned that’s when the left threw the mentally ill under the bus.

As far as this case, it’s up to the defendant’s lawyer to weed out the jury pool. Maybe this guy had a conscious?
