The dictatorship and all its ruinous killings is not going to be dislodged by gargantuan, millions-strong protests. It's not going to be dislodged by sanctions. It's not going to be dislodged by moral suasion to its top military leaders, who inexplicably remain with the Maduro dictatorship. It's held in place with foreign support. Its only way out is to be thrown out.

Cuban and other military rule definitely what's keeping the Maduroites in power. Cuban operatives are running the place, just as they ran Grenada, only with far more force and influence. They say they are going to fight.

Russian and Chinese money and the massive debts they have put onto Venezuela (the country has $7 of debt for every $1 of oil income) have put a boot on the neck of Venezuelans. Russia says that money is important and it will "defend" its Venezuela oil assets in the "toughest way possible."

Cuba literally runs the hellhole - and can stand up and take a bow for that power outage, given its role in running the electrical system and the past outages it was responsible for there.

NO intervention

Latinos love statism, socialism and Caudillo culture, and there’s only one way to possibly cure them of it - at least for a generation or two - and this is let them enjoy and fully experience their socialism.

Agreed...These “third world” countries are all like that for very good reasons. All I ask is that we stop importing them!

The Venezuelans screwed the pooch by voting in the socialists. Their main utility now is to serve as an example of what NOT to do in our own country.By all means send arms to help the opposition but not a single US soldier/sailor or airman should be sacrificed because they screwed up.

It’s time for the US, which is fiscally bankrupt & about to collapse internally within the next 3-6 years, to stop invading others and supporting terrorist proxies abroad.

That’s what it’s time for.

We (the USA) needs to stay out of this....

The only way for it to be fixed is if the average Venezuelan values his liberty more than his own life and is willing to sacrifice that life in the cause of liberty.

If there is going to be war...let their neighbors in South America fight it.

French Guiana is pretty close.

Send in The French Foreign Legion.

The Legion versus Cubans.

I’d pay to watch that on tv.

[Socialists] have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins.
Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness;

[Society] promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, [government] NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices.

[Society] encourages intercourse, [government] creates distinctions.

[Society] is a patron, [government is] a punisher.

Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built upon the ruins of the bowers of paradise. For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him, out of two evils to choose the least. Wherefore, security being the true design and end of government, it unanswerably follows that whatever form thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and greatest benefit, is preferable to all others. — Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)

Apparently it’s pretty clear to Venezuelans after about 20 years.

Hands off Venezuela. The first nanosecond after their immediate needs are satisified due to a U.S. intervention, they’ll be screaming “Gringo Go Home.” Screw them.

Besides... this needs to be left to play out for all the world to see.

Washington warned us about foreign entanglements. Even the “War on Terror” cost us $7 Trillion and over 10,000 dead plus tens of thousands of casualties with no end in sight and not much to show for. In regards to Venezuela, there would never be a sufficient coalition to take over and defeat Maduro’s forces, occupy the country, handle the humanitarian crisis while rebuilding it, without the USA being burdened with the high price and total cost. BTW, we have a crisis on our border that could use a military response. I read how Rome fought wars all over their empire even as Rome was disintegrating from within.

Regarding any "foreign intervention". Not just no, but hell no, at least from the U.S.

They voted for this evil. It's past time for them to fix it for themselves.

“...and there’s only one way to possibly cure them of it - at least for a generation or two - and this is let them enjoy and fully experience their socialism....”

And an intervention (by US!?) would only be one more top-down “solution”. They have to figure it out for themselves what form of government they want. On the other hand, like the French in our Revolution, once we see what that form might be like, it might be wise to play a small role in helping them with food, water and other supplies.

But yeah - it took the Jews 80 years of terrible exile in Babylon to get rid of their idolatry of other gods, so it might take them 80 years to shake off their idolatry of socialism and big government.
