Well, my son got the idea when he finally came out to look at the place and he said, “wow, you could build a serious ‘compound’ here.”
Yep. :)
My thoughts exactly.
In fact, if he's in good enough health, why go to Holiday Inn at all?
Just stay in your home/ apt.
That's even cheaper.
There are not a lot of “nursing homes” these days. Most are AL to start and then progress to different care levels...but it ALL still costs a lot. My MIL luckily has insurance covering a part of her AL care. W/o that her care would be about $6k a month. She’s still semi mobile and not bedridden.
“Hope its a Holiday Inn Express!....................”
I love their cinnamon buns.
You can check out,
but you can never leave.
I dont think I would want to stay at a hotel that had people living in them.
He would have the cost, upkeep, taxes of home to care for. He has a better idea and will save a lot of money.
GOOD FOR HIM! He will enjoy his life traveling and staying in decent motels like most Holiday Inns.
(But to be fair, Holiday Inn doesn’t provide nursing care... he’s made a great choice GIVEN he obviously doesn’t require nursing care right now...)
“I get my kicks/livin’ at a Motel 6”—Eddie Shaw (blues)
some time back this was trotted out a humor, cruise ships were mentioned too
Holiday Inn Retirement Home...New Franchise opportunity...
We’ll leave the light on for ya!....................
The entire premise is ridiculous, and was likely satire. A person who is capable of living in a motel would NOT be living in a Skilled Nursing Facility, aka Nursing Home. Even at “Assisted Living” facilities, aka Retirement Homes, which are around 1/2 the cost of Nursing Homes, most people need some level of assistance with one or more basic tasks like feeding, bathing, toileting, managing medications, transportation, etc. If you are fine living at a motel, you don’t need a retirement home. You can live in your own home just fine.
I actually like this idea.
Too bad it would only work for people who are at least semi-ambulatory and mentally competent.
Good catch there. This guy doesn’t sound authentic at all.
I think the point is it IS cheaper than living in a home...and has easy access to food, entertainment, and emergency services. Yes, if you are not mobile, it won’t work.
Buy a backhoe and install it at night. ...shovel and shutup. :-)
Ive seen data indicating small liberal arts colleges are about to go out of business in droves. Seems to me theres an elder care conversion opportunity for the ones with decent dorms.
The problem with that plan is that when you become seriously ill or injured, the Cruise ship staff will unceremoniously dump you off the ship at the very next port and it will be up to you on how you get treatment and get back to the US.
You can have insurance set aside for that eventuality, but it can get very expensive, depending on your condition and the limitations built into the insurance. Also, the onboard staff will not be your nurse if you have mobility issues that requires regular assistance in your cabin or elsewhere onboard.
Wow small world...I’m in Paducah...what county are you in?
I know they’ve got good land deals down here but haven’t dug into a lot yet. Retirement is about 7 or 8 years away.
