I’ve often referred to the 2004 concept that this hack has recycled.
I think it’s cool if you’re relatively healthy with a medi-alert communicator and the hotel is close to a medical center.
I don’t think it’s for me, but could see it working for people.
He shouldnt have said anything. You get enough people doing the same and the hotels will up the antee on these retiree$. Not for me- a small paid off home or condo with nearby amenities is still more cost effective depending on location.
All is fine until you have an emergency medical condition.
The front desk will call an ambulance. Or he can direct dial it himself.
I applaud this person.

A while back, I read about a woman who turned away from the conventional ‘retirement home’ living and for the same price, spent 365 days a year on sea cruises. She was healthy and mobile and could avail herself of all the exercise amenities. Great food and always had dance partners. Not to mention the views!
I sold my house 2 weeks ago and moved into the mfg. plant where I produce the bar stools I mfg, this will be my home till the day I die.
Might as well get every penny of value I can out of my situation.
Union labor in nursing homes needs to afford RV recreational vehicles charged to old folks.
Just as teachers charge small children for additional RV fun expenses.
Democrats do not tax the rich, they attack small children and vulnerable elderly.
That’s a fact ... Jack.
I once saw an article on a woman who lived on a cruise ship for the same reason. It was cheaper than a retirement home and she got to travel.
Actually he gets it from here.
I sent an email to WSET.
I have known two people who “retired” on slow boats as well as one who “retired” at a motel.
The Hill references this source.
This seems more possible when you add tailored services of a homecare company. Here is an example.
In addition to the tasks of a companions and homemakers, personal care assistants and certified nursing assistants help with daily personal care, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, personal hygiene, medication assistance and nonchronic nursing duties. As always, we are happy to tailor a plan based on your individual needs.
Personal care activities:
Personal hygiene
Bathroom assistance
Dressing
Bathing
Medication assistance
Grooming
Mobility assistance
There are some hotels in locations that do better business only in certain seasons. By offering a retirement theme the occupancy rate could remain high all year round. Even just a hybrid designated retiree rooms sections. A concept to consider perhaps.
Myself, Im thinking a cabin in the woods somewhere, and if the good Lord takes me, or maybe the local wildlife, so be it.
Oh, and the annual property taxes on the whole thing are the equivalent of one month’s payment on a Camry (five year financing). We can live darned comfortably here on SS alone if we really wanted to. And we do see lots of deer, rabbits, racoons, Hawks, etc.
Thanks for that link!
HoJos also won’t randomly jack up your fees when they find out you have regular Social Security or pension checks — and then steal them
Assisted living gets you meals, cleaning, laundry, help with meds. If he needs the first three minus the meds, the Holiday Inn might be cheaper if there’s a dearth of senior housing in his neck of the woods.
Minnesota Fats lived for years at the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville.
He crashed a wedding reception I was at there. Another guest recognized him and invited him in. Fats headed straight for the open bar and got himself rip-roaring drunk.
After a while, he went up on stage, grabbed a mic, and started singing/humming along with the jazz band. Not well.
The groom was a wuss so the bride finally had to go up on the stage and chase him out the door.
Best part of the wedding.
I lived out of my car for a while and saved up a bunch of money. For showers, etc. whenever needed I would hit a local day spa it was $25 a day unlimited shower, sauna, pool, hot tub, bathroom supplies etc.
I arranged my car where I could sleep well completely lying down and had radio and streaming internet.
I scoped out several quiet and safe places to park and never had an issue. Could move on a moments notice and go wherever I want. Had a duffel bag with a weeks worth of clothes.
I kinda miss that time it was simple and uncluttered.
What State? I wouldn’t even need that much land.
