Trump orders McDonald's for football champions as shutdown cuts staff
The Guardian UK ^ | 14 Jan 2019 | Matthew Cantor

Any champion football player disappointed with Monday’s dinner at the White House can blame Democrats, according to a presidential spokesman. Clemson University’s football team on Thursday joined Donald Trump for dinner to celebrate their win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship. However, the government shutdown has left much of the White House staff furloughed, forcing the president to set the menu, the spokesperson said. The event created a golden culinary opportunity for a president whose typical evenings reportedly often involve a cheeseburger in front of the TV. On Monday’s menu was “McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King’s with some pizza”, Trump told reporters.

Or, “Filthy rich President Trump feeds college football champs cheap junk food!”

[ This was very nice of the president, but would the typical University Football Coach have a problem with this sort of food being served to his players? Or maybe their diets are not as strict as I had thought. Not every player is going to eat like Tom Brady is said to eat. Not at the University level. ]

If their diets were strict as you say they probably welcomed a “pardon meal” from the president himself of food they haven’t had in MONTHS! and their coaches couldn’t say JACK about it!

Despite all the bad press McDonalds food gets it is not nearly as bad as it is made out. On McMeal a month is not gonna screw up a diet, now if you eat three meals a day from Mickey’s Dees... well that another story...

The only fish I eat is in tuna melts. Never go to Wendy's although we have one here. Burger King hamburgers don't set right in my stomach, although they taste great going down.

I live in Rome, NY. Small city. We have a lot of little Italian restaurants, and pizza shops. You're right about Pizza Hut. It isn't anything like it used to be. When I was pregnant with my youngest son, that's all I craved was their thin crust. Last time I ordered one from Pizza Hut, the thin crust wasn't even cooked all the way through. I like thin crust, and I like a lot of meat and vegetable toppings. The problem with that is, that when I order a medium one from Domino's, and have it delivered, it costs me almost $35, and that doesn't even include the tip. Outrageous, so I rarely have it anymore. I can make my own pizza with fresh dough at home, but of course it doesn't taste the same.

Subway sandwiches and salads are good. I usually get the tuna sub, or BMT sandwich, or salad with pepperoni and salami.

One of my favorite salads is one I make myself. First I buy a small order of KFC crispy tenders, then I buy a bag of veggie lover's salad. To the salad I add celery and red onion. I cut the tenders into bite-sized pieces, then slather them with Buffalo Wing sauce. Put blue cheese dressing on the salad. Add the chicken, then top it off with packaged taco strips. It's excellent.

How are you still here. Why? I have watched you come around once or twice a year for the singular purpose of being a nattering nabobs. It’s pathetic.

I prefer mine with butter, cheese, and salt. A bowl in the morning and I’m not hungry for a long time...very filling! I hate hominy however. Grits are simply ground corn that you boil. Anybody that puts sugar on them is not truly a southerner...lol

It works because people know he’s an American who genuinely loves this kind of food. How many pics did we see of him with it on his campaign plane? How many times did the press try to spin it into a negative?

He is sharing what truly is to him a treat, so it is not at all like feeding slop to the pigs, or whatever.

Bravo, Mr. President.

Grits is a so-so food for me. What I glommed
onto immediately in Canada was the practice of
putting malt vinegar on french fries. Love it.

Actually, rather insulting. Trump could pay personally to cater

A bunch of college football players... they probably loved this. Besides, the "optics" are great, stacks of Quarter Pounders are a perfect contrast with the photos of Democrats frolicking on the beaches in Puerto Rico.

You are correct. Some years ago the NCAA banned “training tables” because it wasn’t “fair” to other students. So now athletes are on their own.

Seasons over. Returning players will have to be ready by the time training starts.

Clever solution.

The McDonalds store just scored bit.

College Kids love that kind of food.

No dishes to clean.
