The "Caractors" are the only tangible evidence in existence related to Smith's story.

No gold plates, no brass plates, no peep stones, no Urim and Thummim...

only these "Caractors," not a single one of which is in the purported languages.

Smith's translation of the Caractors. According to Martin Harris (Joseph Smith - History, 1:64), "I went to the city of New York, and presented the characters which had been translated, with the translation thereof, to Professor Charles Anthon, a gentleman celebrated for his literary attainments. Professor Anthon stated that the translation was correct, more so than any he had before seen translated from the Egyptian. I then showed him those which were not yet translated,* and he said they were Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic; and he said they were true characters."

Speak right up now in all truthfulness. Isn't it revealing how Smith started out making a stab at creating believable "caractors" but quckly gave up and produced nothing but squiggles, ending up wih a series of nothing more than crude little scribbles? Yet Professor Anthon supposedly translated them!

*Harris must have had two or three pieces of paper with him—one with characters and a translation of them (on the same paper or a separate one) and one with untranslated characters—quite likely the "Caractors." Some Mormon "scholars" have gone out on a limb, sawed it off, and knocked themselves out trying to translate from these true Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic characters a segment that would correspond with a verse from 1 Nephi.

Modern-day experts in Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic. In 1829, any knowledge of these languages possessed by U.S. scholars would have been rudimentary at best. Expertise in them has vastly improved since then. So go ahead, do it. Get any modern expert in these languages to identify which of these "Caractors" are Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac and Arabic. Better still, accept the claim of Mormon apologists that Anthon did indeed so testify and that his appraisal of the Caractors was correct. (Op. cit, pp. 73-75)

What say you? Which of Smith's "Caractors" resemble the Assyriac and Arabic ones? No need to pay experts for their analysis. A child could accurately check this out. These writing systems have remained constant for well over 3000 years.

President Joseph Fielding Smith said: "Doctrines were corrupted, authority lost, and a false order of religion took the place of the gospel of Jesus Christ, just as it had been the case in former dispensations, and the people were left in spiritual darkness." "For hundreds of years the world was wrapped in a veil of spiritual darkness, until there was not one fundamental truth belonging to the place of salvation ...Joseph Smith declared that in the year 1820 the Lord revealed to him that all the 'Christian' churches were in error, teaching for commandments the doctrines of men" (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 3, p.282).

Though I got roasted SEVERELY here on FR for NOT voting for him then; "...but wisdom is proved right by all of her children..."

I remember being bitterly disappointed on election night in 2012. I actually believed Romney could win. How foolish I was. Foolish for believing he would win, and even more foolish for thinking it would matter if he did. It saddens me to know he'll be a thorn in our side in the Senate for at least 6 years. He'll probably hold the office until death.

There is a pattern with Republicans. Obama could eat them for lunch, degrade them, insult them, and still they take up the mantle against Trump. Just like Gen Matthis who was fired by a note only and he never wrote a resignation letter that was degrading against Obama. He did so for Trump. I wonder if Matthis wasn’t another Obama plant. Make it appear that he was against someone for not following him in order for Trump to rehire them.

Just odd that Matthis wrote that letter against Trump but not Obama.

Romney was insulted, degraded by Dems and the media and yet, he fights back against Trump.

Our party cowers with the Dems and they eat their own party. You never see this happen with the Dems and their own party. The Dems tow the party line no matter what. Even Hillary, stepping down to allow Obama to be President.

No we get McCain, Flake, Collins, Murkowski and few others who vote with Dems.

What hurt Romney was his 47$ comment that some stupid Repub had recorded and gleefully released to the press. The other that killed his run when Obama and the moderator did the Rose Garden question and answer and left Romney standing on stage with deer in head lights face. Obama had the questions before hand- yet he stabs Trump in the back.

Honestly, no difference between the two parties anymore, so why vote. Repubs cave with the dems, they won’t support their party president, when in majority they never win any investigations, nor do they end up with any prosecutions. They could have funded the wall in two years. They don’t fight the stealing of elections in California, they just lay down and die.
