Most Americans want action on climate change. Republicans are the exception: Poll

Americans have reached consensus on the need to act in response to climate change with one conspicuous exception: Republicans.

A new NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll identifies that sharp break in the evolving pattern of public opinion as scientists have amplified their warnings of rising global temperatures and linked them to a range of natural disasters. Overall, 66 percent of Americans now say they've seen enough evidence to justify action, up from 51 percent two decades ago.

That figure incorporates 85 percent of Democrats, 79 percent of independents, 71 percent of women, 61 percent of men and strong majorities of all racial groups. At least 55 percent agree on the need for action in all regions of the country, and at all age, education and income levels.

Resistance comes only from the one-third of Americans who identify themselves as Republicans. A 56 percent majority of the GOP says either that concern about climate change is unwarranted or that more research is necessary before taking action.

A 52 percent majority says that failure to address climate change will cost more through the consequences of weather-related events such as droughts or floods. Just 35 percent say that action will raise energy prices and cost more.

Here, too, opinion breaks sharply by party. Some 63 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of independents say action will cost less than inaction. But just 35 percent of Republicans agree, outpaced by the 48 percent of Republicans who believe action will cost more.

The telephone survey of 900 adults was conducted Dec. 9-12. It carries a margin for error of 3.27 percentage points.

I’m certain every one of those people demanding action on climate change will be willing to accept a European-style annual carbon tax on the vehicle they drive.

I’d like action on the Socialist Left.

The current DNC is the people HUAC was convened to prevent.

MOST of the public is ignorant of the giant discrepancy between the science from the alarmists themselves and the demand for strong and immediate action now. With ignorance of that discrepancy MOST of the public has been led to believe that fullfilling all the alarmists demands now will produce some change in climate that they will see. It won’t.

If you take the science as given out by the assumptions and models the alaramists use then it is clear to anyone who looks, but not most of the public who remain ignorant, that any major immediate change in human CO2 now will have no observable impact on weather or climate for anywhere from 100 to 200 years from now. That is from the alarmists own science.

It comes from the fact that that science itself is based on the acientific assumption of how long CO2 remains in the atmosphere once it is released there from any source, natural or human. It is an extremely long time. It is so long that as ANY more CO2 is produced, it builds up in the atmosphere, because of how long what is already produced stays there.

The alarmists own science indicates immediate and huge reductions in human produced CO2 NOW will not end the increased accumululation of atmospheric CO2 and will only begin to slow it down, in maybe 100 or 200 years.

And if that science is wrong, what will be the lost economic production of earth’s economies in the generations over the next 100 to 200 years, spent chasing after CO2? Trillions of trillions of dollars.

The science and the economics say (as does nature), adapt, adapt, adapt.

900 out of 300,000,000 is a LAUGHABLE Sample size.

It’s Christmas and I have a wish...
I wish for sun every day, with temperatures in the mid-70’s. So, is AlGore still accepting payments?

Start putting the personal cost of climate change to people....make it personal to them and you will find out just how little people support climate change.

Okay, the climate changes. It has since there has been atmosphere on this rock. Say we eliminate all Co2 emissions tomorrow. What are they going to about the big yellow globe in the sky that affects our climate more than our puny SUV's and factories?

Why did we still have ice in the Artic this summer when Al Gore and his followers predicted no summer ice so many years ago? Where are the oceans rising? I read recently that somewhere the ocean level had risen by 0.3 %. Now I read that some scientists think a mini ice-age is coming.

In my life time it's been ice age predicted in the 70's. Then it's global warming, only to be changed to general climate change. Currently a new ice age. Pfft.

Ok I want these people “.. NBC News/ Wall Street Journal ..” to tell me what physical evidence they have that the Quaternary has ended! The Quaternary is a geologic time period characterized by cyclic (That means repeating NBC News!) transcontinental glaciations! The last glaciation (popularly known as the “Ice Age” - { Note there have been many many ice Ages!}) ended roughly 20,000 years ago. We seem to be in a warming lull of which there have been several in the Quaternary! Does “NBC News/ Wall Street “ think the last glaciation (Ice Age) was the last and I mean last glaciation (No More!)? If so what’s the physical evidence? The only physical evidence available says this is a lull and a new glaciation will occur in the future. The only question is how far out in the future will it occur!

Putting my Ned Stark hat on: “Winter is Coming!”
Its just a matter of when?

Here in AZ we deal with climate change the sensible way by turning the thermostat up or down.

What action?

Are you gonna put a shroud around the Sun?

Good bloody grief!

Climate has been changing since the beginning of time.
Where I’m sitting right now was buried under a mile of ice just a geological heartbeat ago.

Climate changes, life adapts.

Regardless of how much we do, third world countries and especially China and India far outpace us in so-called "greenhouse gases" and climate adverse activity. One small volcano can undo years of liberal spending.

The American Taxpayer has better places to spend his bucks.

Besides, this is argumentum ad populam, which is a logical fallacy.

It doesn’t matter what the majority says or what a “consensus” of scientists says.

Only the FACTS are relevant.

This reveals, again, the limitations of government by idiots voting, or in this case, by idiots being polled.

“Most Americans want action on climate change”.

So the f*** what? Idiots want lots of stupid things. What sort of “action” do you suppose they want? And what are the chances that that “action”, or any “action”, would affect the giant fusion reactor in space that governs global temperatures?
