France's 'yellow vests' want to have their cake and eat it too.....

Their demands — or at least, the closest thing to the official statement from a group composed of far-right wing ethnonationalists, left-wing communists, and everyone in between — include but are not limited to an increase in pensions and minimum wage, an end to the withholding of taxes, abolition of taxes on credit card swipes, more rent control, 5 million additional public housing units, an end to at-will employment through required permanent contracts, an end to austerity measures, and a cap on personal taxes so that they don't surpass 25 percent of income.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, let alone free housing, benefits, disability pension, and job security. If the yellow vests want to embrace an ethno-Soviet welfare state for the white citizenry, they can, but only at the cost of ending economic growth and what remains of the French free market.

The French economy has long been bogged down by a bureaucracy and legal code which disincentives entrepreneurship and growth, and Macron's reforms can't reverse course overnight. But the yellow vests are wrong to succumb to rage and demand that he further feed into the French nanny state. Macron may be accused of being apathetic towards the yellow vests, but the yellow vests are more certainly apathetic to economic facts.

I've heard that the "Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee!" stuff is about 1/3 of their demands; but it's enough to guarantee failure. Demanding short work hours and high pay in combination with free stuff doesn't work. French economics at work.

The UK seems to be pretty far gone, too; but at least I don't see the "Gimmee, Gimmee, Gimmee!" attitude in their rallies and demonstrations.

As Ann Coulter once said, end Tax Withholding and nobody will ever Vote Democrat again.

Imagine every Taxpayer making out a big old Check to Uncle Sugar on April 15th. Half of them wouldn’t have the Money to pay their Taxes either.

Well they wanted all that to begin with but fail to see someone has to pay for it all.....including funding the refugees etc. they throw out the red carpet to. They really don’t think things thru at all.....until it bites them in the rear......macron bit HARD!

‘French economics at work’ is right!

I couldn’t hardly believe their demands........why not just say they want to keep more of their own money earned.....further what macron stated in his speech today is not that.

Someone once said that the reason Britain has produced more good economists than France is that the measure of a British economist is whether they can run a business, and the measure of a French economist is how well they give speeches at coffee houses.

Bring back the Guillotine and use as needed. France has a problem. It is basically socialistic but the socialists are rebelling against socialism. It is rather amusing.

Relative to the Guillotine there are so many worthy choices for this instrument. Today France is eating their own. I wonder what France will be in ten years.

Macron of France is political dead meat as are Teresa May of the UK and Angela Merkel of Germany. The political divides in the European Union are quite reminiscent of Europe before WWI.

The real problem with the European Union was it was a great concept called the European Economic Community. The EEC was a fantastic concept promoting free trade within the EEC. Most unfortunately the EEC morphed into the European Union and then Brussels (the home of the European Union) then started to try and establish policies governing the internal governments of each individual nation of the European Union. Thus the chaos has since ensued.

A Frenchman or British Citizen do not want each other telling them how to run their internal affairs. The Germans want to tell everyone how to run their internal affairs. This will not end well.

Sounds about right ....

France always strikes me as folks who want to live in their bubble comfort zone.... just ‘hanging out’ on the sidelines.... until they’re pushed into action...and that’s as little as they can comfortably say they contributed.

Macron is trying to divert attention from the real issue which is bowing to the Climate Alarmists, so his only out is Bribery.

Now that the Leftist Commies have joined in the Riots they will end up getting more out of Macron than the Middle Class fools who are really being screwed over.

Of course, the French Middle Class Voted in these Socialist Morons, just like our Middle Class Voted in the Rats last November.

I can’t disagree....

They’re setting themselves up for more than what they can comprehend. They always think they can control the levers they pull on their populations. ...and this more than willing to watch the so called ‘collateral’ damage their actions result in when they pull those levers.

I’ve been saying that for decades. Milton Friedman really screwed this country up by proposing it. Another “temporary” war time fix we still enjoy.

I doubt the demands were drafted by any majority consensus. But by Left radicals who have used the Yellow Vest protests to advance their own grievances.

Well Climate Change is Macron’s baby so he’s not going to lay that on the line......but that’s just one of the Many issues French people have yet to wake up to and his throwing cash at these folks is like giving a crying baby candy rather than solid food.

Heck he’ll raise their wages then prices will go up and they’ll complain about what it costs to feed their faces. Round and round they go.

I forgot to add this note. The EEC was fantastically successful when it was just about free trade within its members. I lived there during those days. It was good!

The day they started the Euro currency was the day the EEC failed and then became a European nation state. This was not good! Oddly Britain did not join the Euro and this was wise.

Those that control the currency control all.
