Former FBI Director James Comey said Sunday that President Trump is "certainly close" to being an unindicted co-conspirator in an ongoing investigation into campaign finance violations.
Comey said during a discussion with MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace during an event that Trump does not fit the description in the "formal sense" because he hasn't been named in an indictment.
"But if he’s not there, he’s certainly close given the language in the filing that the crimes were committed at his direction," Comey said, referring to a filing from federal prosecutors last Friday that said Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, "acted in coordination with and at the direction of" Trump in steering illegal payments during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Comey later added that Trump would be in "serious jeopardy" of being charged in the Southern District of New York investigation if he wasn't the president.
"The government wouldn’t make that sponsoring allegation if they weren't seriously contemplating going forward with criminal charges," he said. "Where it stands here I can’t say."
On Friday, the SDNY released new documents about its case against Cohen, including arguments that Trump directed Cohen to make a pair of hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal during the 2016 campaign.
Both Daniels and McDougal have alleged they had affairs with the president. Trump has repeatedly denied their claims.
The filing does not directly name Trump, but makes multiple references to him as "Individual-1."
Cohen previously pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations in August. Prosecutors are recommending he serve a 42-month sentence for violations of campaign finance law and charges of bank and tax fraud.
Comey's comments about Trump came the same day the president lashed out at his ex-FBI director, accusing him of lying during testimony he gave to House lawmakers about the probe into Russian election interference.
"Leakin’ James Comey must have set a record for who lied the most to Congress in one day. His Friday testimony was so untruthful!" Trump tweeted.
Comey privately testified before the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees last week. Among other things, a transcript of his testimony revealed that the counterintelligence investigation into possible conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign began by examining four Americans.
Comey can freely say these things because he either believes or knows he's untouchable.
Comey lied under oath with ease. He’s untouchable.

Comey sounds unstable. Between the hundreds of memory lapses, and the fantasies in his mind concerning Trump, he sounds likes he’s losing touch with reality. He might end up using an insanity plea.

Comey will be indicted if there is an honest jury in DC, which I sincerely doubt re prosecuting major corrupt Democrat govt officials or Trump haters.
I was involved in both a research project aimed at getting enough evidence to try City Councilman, then Mayor for Life Marion Barry on several different type of criminal/corruption charges. Wasn’t going to happen on the Democrat Marion Barry welfare plantation despite his first wife and associates from a “work opportunities” govt grants group OIC, being convicted of skimming money from it.
Somehow the snake got out of the field before the judicial plows came through. People went to jail to protect his sorry criminal ass and he never gave a damned.
I also worked on an Organized Crime Task Force that would have put not only the Mafia leaders of NYC in jail, and taken over their biggest controlled union, LIUNA, but would have seen the Clintons and the Democrat Party indicted for accepting Mafia money in return for “training grants” money (about $30Million) for job training.
Attorney General Reno quashed those indictments for a guided self-clean-up of LIUNA. Talk about a cover-up.
Comey may have a lot of covert protectors in DOJ and the FBI, as well as in the courts, which in DC and even the Eastern District of Virginia, are significantly liberal/leftist.
Still, the SOB tried to overthrow a presidential election while protecting someone he knew and basically admitted had committed crimes against the Court and the Country - Hillary Clinton and her band of leftist unethical clowns.
Add in the fact that the leftist media will always protect a Democrat against a Republican unless the offense is so blatantly obvious that even a blind person could see it, and even then they will try to explain it away such as “I accidentally spilled hydrochloric acid on my computer drives while I was cleaning them; I dropped my sledge hammer on my hard-drives while I was putting in a nail for a wall picture; and I accidentally hit the “Delete” key instead of the “Save” one for 33,000 emails.

I really don’t get how they can tie the use of personal finances to campaign finance laws because he financed his own run for office. These laws are in place so that those running for office don’t use other people’s money to enrich themselves or those close to them. It is drawing a very long bow indeed to include these payments. Buying himself a hamburger from a friends business would bring him under suspicion if this is to be the case. Meanwhile Dems enrich themselves and friends and family in the millions and get a pasd

Comey definitely needs mental health assistance. He can’t remember 270 occurances when questioned by the Senators and is imaging case against Trump. Poor, poor sick guy. He needs immediate help.
