They did the same thing in Georgia with the “Ludowici Law’. Locals could not give a ticket for less than ten miles over and the highway patrol generally would not.

I once visited a friend who was locked up in Ludowici. It was not even up to the standards of Mayberry. Two decrepit cells with a master padlock to hold them shut.

I’ve lived in Alabama all my life and have never heard of this place. I’ll have to look it up so I can be sure to avoid it.

Yes, I’ve been to Waldo a few times, it was well-known in Gainesville when I went to UF as a speed trap.

The town of Times Beach, Missouri was once famous from coast-to-coast for the I-44 speed trap they ran just inside the city limits.

Times Beach is now an EPA superfund site.

There was It was on U.S. 301, north of Tampa. I can’t recall the name, and there might have been more. There might have been one at Coleman which was on U.S. 301 also.

Alfred Hitchcock had a great episode about this subject:

"The Crooked Road" with Walter Matthau as the cop.

New Rome was the worst - you never knew when you left Columbus and entered New Rome. New Rome had 100 people and a Police Force of 6 full Time Cops.

Brice, OH down by Groveport was pretty bad in the day.

Every time I go from middle Georgia to Kxoxville, I know to go right at the speed limit when I hit the 3-4 miles of I75 that runs thru Forsyth, GA.

Hell, Forsyth has been a speed trap for as long as I can remember. One time I swear I saw 10 cars pulled over.

They did the same thing in Georgia with the “Ludowici Law’.

If I remember correctly , about 60 years ago, Ludowici was known as the home of "What's my fine," because of it's notorious speed trap. -Tom

We got caught in one of those fast-reducing speed traps last summer. The infamous trap is Texline, Tx, in the far north-west corner of the panhandle.

Governor Lester Maddox erected a billboard outside town. It said in plain language that the town was full of thieves and for motorists to beware.

His threatening to abolish the city finally did the job.

Wasn’t there a town in Florida that was such a speed trap that it lost its charter and the police force disbanded?

There was a Borough in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania called West Fairview which was located along US 11 & 15 just south of the PRR Enola yard.

11 & 15 has a long viaduct which ends on a downgrade...that was the north line of the former Borough. The Borough had a speed trap right at the line. Quite the moneymaker...fun while it lasted.

The town is now an unincorporated village in East Pennsboro Township.
