“Didn’t we already do that with the 17th Amendment?”

Yes. Now the 2 chambers of Congress are the House & the Super-House. The latter has some residual prestige, and some arcane rules.

And while we're at it, let's get rid of that pesky Constitution thingy. Sheesh!

Especially that pesky Thirteenth Amendment! Hey, Dingell, you wanna push for that?

Idiot.

OC: “It’s not like we can’t spare one of the three chambers of Congress... so what, we’ll still have two of them”

These leftist lunatics want a pure democracy controlled by each coast and every liberal enclave. Everyone else will simply be disenfranchised.

The senate was originally designed to represent state legislatures.

If this worm hates our Constitutional form of government so much, the door is open for him to leave.

I’ll help him pack.

Dingleberry can pound sand! There is a damn good reason that the Senate exists! Worst Constitutional Amendment was the 17th which stripped the States of their representation by making Senate elections required!

That’s the only way to get rid of the Senate. Article 5 (which discusses amendments) says that there is no way to deprive a state’s equal representation in the Senate without its consent. That means that all 50 states would have to agree to let the large states completely dominate the government of the Union. The fact that the “longest-serving Congressman” is unaware of this speaks volumes.

Twice in the past 18 years, we’ve seen the loser of the popular vote become president through the Electoral College formula, which gives that same disproportionate weight to small states, each of which gets two automatic votes for its two senators.

So Dingle connects the electoral college with two Senators of each state? Hard to believe he lasted 59 years in the House. Should have run for Senate!

“Didn’t we already do that with the 17th Amendment? “

Precisely. There is no high or low house when both are voted by the population at large. Repealing the 17th and installing term limits would be a good start....

So...California should have like 35 senators and New Mexico like only one? I see.

The authors and signers of the Constitution wanted “national legislative paralysis.” Their intention was a federal government that did a few big tasks well, and the rest left to the states.

The media and huffington post would also like to get rid of the Senate. Nasty people. Bad people.

“which is disproportionately weighted by congresspeople in small states”

The Senate was set up to do exactly that.

"...we’ve seen the loser of the popular vote become president through the Electoral College formula, which gives that same disproportionate weight to small states, each of which gets two automatic votes for its two senators."

Last I read it, each State's votes in Electoral College are based on the number of Representatives and Senators (Article II, 1st clause: "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress"}

Dingell must be taking lessons from Occaisional-Cortex. Or taking the same drugs.
