I have a question. Could President Trump pick someone else to be Chief Justice?

Probably not, but he might find a way to expose Roberts as being corrupt and compromised, and cause Roberts to resign in shame.

Well here’s the thing, this 9th circuit illegal immigration thing is occurring now, President Trump needs it overruled now. Ginsburg isn’t dead yet and it appears her demise isn’t imminent, nor is Breyer’s.

seems they could break off NV&AZ or merge them with other near by circuit.

Also could break off OR,ID, MT, WA and ALASKA making it’s own circuit.

Leave CA and HI to be the looney group.

well that would show how stupid and unworthy of his position Roberts is as a chief justice of SC, to get into a situation where he would have to recuse himself from doing his lifetime appointed job. If he were serious about wanting the job he would not put himself of jeopardy of being able to do it in all cases potentially brought before him.

Too bad California can’t be split into two states. Let the liberals have the coast. Let the Deplorables have the interior.

She’s reason priority #1 and the wise latina is the priority #2, in that regard. Get rid of #1 and Roberts is rendered neutral. Get #1 and #2 and Roberts is a pimple on the ass of history, from that day forward. If that were to happen, it wouldn’t surprise me if he had some sudden health issues and retired. Especially if the President replaces those two, with women. Which I think would be a safe bet.

what i find on line in quick search is the constitution doesn’t say it can’t happen, but since SC can rule about impeachments of presidents it is not a good practice to demote a chief justice or all presidents will likely start trying to rearrange who is chief justice to suit their preference when elected and their by nullify an important function of that part of govt.

Joe diGenova wrote,”This public criticism of the President was not an accident or a coincidence.”

100% correct. Justice Roberts is setting the stage for whatever comes down the pike from the Mueller witch hunt and/or to be able to recuse himself when this issue from the 9th Circuit hits the SC docket.

I fear Mr. Roberts is a “never-trumper”.

It can be done by implementing this from the Judicial Committee:

press release | September 13, 2018

House Judiciary Committee Approves Legislation to Improve Efficiency of Ninth Circuit

Washington, D.C. – The House Judiciary Committee today approved by a vote of 16-5 the Court Imbalance Restructure Concerning Updates to Impacted Tribunals (CIRCUIT) Act of 2018, H.R. 6754. This bill, authored by Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet Subcommittee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), modifies the structure of the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

The federal courts of appeal have regularly expanded in number and split in response to new states and territories being added to the Union as well as population growth. There are currently 12 regional circuits in addition to the Federal Circuit. The Ninth Circuit is the largest circuit in caseload, population, and geography.

The CIRCUIT Act would implement the 1998 White Commission’s recommendation to create three regional divisions within the Ninth Circuit in order to improve judicial efficiency.

It splits the 9th into 3 divisions North, Central and South

AND a FOURTH DIVISION...the Circuit Division

A Circuit Division which would hear certain cases including where two or more Divisions have reached final decisions of law that conflict.om an earlier thread

The territory of the existing Ninth Circuit should be shrunk to the city limits of San Francisco, with one or more new circuits established for the remaining territory.

Roberts didn’t pick a fight. He was provoked by some slimeball from the Associated Press.

Who said anything about breaking California up?! I sure didn't and every time that ridiculous idea has come up, I've shouted No! These efforts, such as the so-called "State of Jefferson" is a total scam. Look at the initiative this past year, all it does is pack more Democrat Senators. DOA.

What I do want is 9th circuit broken up in such a manner as to not create an intensely mini-9th circuit and some more normal ones. No, need to break up this activist circuit. Just not sure it can be accomplished.

It is utterly the SCOTUS fault for not requiring nationwide orders by District Judges to have been approved by their own Ct. of Appeals or the SCOTUS. Some left wing local hack like J. Susan Dlott, appointed in quid pro quo by Clinton for massive money from her criminal husband, can issue orders to the WH and the POTUS? Absurd.
