He was older than the norm, but I often think of possibility of people becoming schizophrenic when young people snap with little warning. Probably not the case as 29 is a few years outside the normal range.

We had millions of guys come home from WWII and this sort of thing never seemed to happen. Vets today get far more support for these kinds of issues. Someone should be wondering why this is occurring now and not back then.

Thanks——will check it out——my comments were meant to apply to all younger men,not just combat veterans.

I think it is very sad.

My first four years I got two one ribbon, one good conduct. The military follows Napoleons adage “A soldier will fight long and hard for a piece of colored ribbon.”

You’re welcome You’re certainly not wrong. All should be considered. This is not the society of our fathers. On Sebastian Junger, watch Restrepo if you have the chance as well. Let me know your take on the two Ted Talks if you get a chance. Hope you are having a good evening.

Once a marine, always a marine. There
is no former marine. EX-marine signifies
he’s been booted out, for whatever
reason, and I believe his problems
should have been investigated then.
The military is quick to absolve
themselves of service members who
suffer from mental issues. The
vast majority can handle the
atrocities of combat.

From local news, he was a frequent patron at Borderline and went there with friends. According to neighbors, after the April incident, there were no more arguments or loud happenings at the home. I submit that is when he started planning. Here is the root - how many times have we heard this from the parent of a shooter: ‘we lived in fear but didn’t know what to do’?:

“A neighbor told CNN that the gunman’s mother “lived in fear” of what her son might do and that when police were called to the house earlier this year “it took them about a half a day to get him out of the house.”
“The neighbor, Richard Berge, said the shooter’s mother told him that while she didn’t fear for her own safety, she was concerned about her son and “kind of beside herself, she didn’t know what to do because he wouldn’t get help.”
