Turkey's Erdogan defends gift of luxury plane from Emir of Qatar

ISTANBUL (REUTERS) - President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has defended his decision to accept a luxury plane from Qatar at a time of economic hardship, saying it was a gift, not a purchase, and that it had been donated to the Turkish state, not to him personally.

State broadcaster TRT Haber said last week the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani had given Mr Erdogan the aircraft, which Turkish media said was a Boeing 747, sparking criticism from Turkey's opposition.

A lawmaker from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Mr Sezgin Tanrikulu, had expressed concern that the aircraft had been bought rather than donated, noting that Turkey was in an economic crisis, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.

The plane, which would normally carry 400 people, had been refitted to seat just 76, the newspaper said.

Mr Erdogan said Qatar's emir had donated the plane, which he said was worth around US$500 million (S$686.91 million), to the Turkish state after hearing that Turkey had expressed interest in buying it.

Seeing how much “we” supported the Fraud’s terrorist buddies in Qatar, building them offices and such, I’d say “we” helped fund this “gift”, too.

On the bright side, the plane is undoubtedly stuffed full of tracking, wifi, bluetooth, mics, and every other possible kind of listening equipment.

If you’re in a financial crisis, how can you afford to operate and maintain this aircraft?

Qatar’s emir found an opportunity to unload an obsolete whale and took it. What’s erdogan going to do with it anyway? He only makes occasional hops around the Mediterranean, Gulf region, occasionally EU or NATO meetings. Hardly needs a 747 for that...

...saying it was a gift, not a purchase, and that it had been donated to the Turkish state, not to him personally.

Ah, I see, he only gets to use it while he's president. Which is forever.

This sort of thing is only composed for the non-muslim in the world community.

Muslims under his rule understand this gift, and they have no problem with him having it because he is elite.

In other words, there is no question or challenge to him having this plane.

No question. He IS the Dictator.

Question is? Does Erdogan’s Turkey belong in a Western Alliance like NATO.

There is no longer rule of law in Turkey. There is no Adalet (Justice), only the edicts of Erdogan the Islamist Dictator of Turkey.

He will be judged for his performance eventually, it will not go well for him.

By still employing Jihadi’s who are paid by Qatar.

For how long before financial implosion? Good Question.

So far the answer has been Qatar’s deep pockets.

I knew A&M had a university in Israel. (the first foreign A&M branch) I did not know one was in Qatar.

Qatar tries to work both sides of the street, but still finances terrorists.
