More than 100 U.S. Marines launched an air assault in the southern Syrian desert backed by artillery fire to send a “strong message” to Russia not to send their forces inside a restricted area near an American military outpost, two U.S. defense officials have told Fox News.
The show of forces comes as the leaders of Iran, Russia and Turkey are meeting Friday in Tehran to hammer out their next steps in the seven-year Syrian civil war ahead of an expected offensive led by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces into the country’s northwest Idlib Province.
On two separate occasions this month (Sept. 1 and Sept. 6), the Russian military warned its American counterparts of its intention to conduct a military operation in southern Syria near the At Tanf garrison where U.S. special operations forces are located.
Twice the U.S. military has told the Russians to back off.

Netanyahu and Putin meet more often than teenagers on a hot date. Whatever they have worked out, I don’t know. I do know that the Jewish oligarchs in both Israel and Russia have numerous contractual agreements that benefit both Israel and Russia.
The US needs to butt out, and let the dice roll amongst the various players in that area of the Middle East.

Isn't that "fire" mostly Iraqis who want to kick the Iranians and pro-Iranian Iraqi leaders out? So the idea would actually be to let that powder keg go off, but block the Iranians and their Russki allies from putting down the insurrection?
I would guess that Iraqi Shia's who want the Iranian influence out are not going to like ISIS or AQ either, but are these Shia's a halfway reliable ally (something like 1/2 of what we have with the Kurds)?
There are too many questions for me to be comfortable with this, yet, although unlike many on FR, I understand the necessity of containing Iran...

Yeah, it was rolling in my soul when I left. Stayed with me most of the time, and all while I was eating. Finally had to dial it up on the phone (yay got more free data today - perhaps not coincidentally?). Lord willing I should be traveling next weekend so that data will be good on the road.

It struck me earlier this week, that again, next Tuesday is 9/11 just like it was in 2001. (of course it comes around every so often).
I am NOT saying this means anything, I was just noticing on Tuesday the 4th and remembering back to that week leading up. (2001 was a unique year for me).
Tonight I drop by the gas station where I stopped the morning of 9/11. I knew there’d be long gas lines so I filled up my SUV that I had at the time (miss my SUV).
I decided I better fill up before I got to my consulting client.

Um, punishing the Russians for not letting Hillary win?
Protecting Israel, stopping Iran’s push to the Med, and countering Russia’s bid to take over the rest of the ME, among other items.

Without US support, and given the modern weapons supplied by Russia and China, Israel will be overwhelmed in a concerted effort in rather short order - right now its tactics are not working as Soleimani is still continuing to supply troops, set up bases, and import missile while Israel’s Parliament dithers.
Not to mention that recent internal audits and estimate of Israel’s Mil do not look good, pointing to a non-ready state for a major war. Lefties in Israel hate the country as much as Lefties here do, and are effective in government by helping Bibi and others dither.
And war against Israel without US active support will not look like the ‘67 war. Israel will suffer mass casualties and more than likely lose badly especially if it comes to attrition.
Iran, Russia, and China would love it if we closed our base in the Negev and withdrew the troops at al-Tanf.
Israel cannot do it alone.
