Illinois manufacturer to lay off 150 workers, move to Mexico

By Associated Press

A storage safe manufacturer is closing two factories in northern Illinois and moving operations to Mexico to counteract the effects of metal tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration.

Stack-on Products will lay off about 150 people at its Wauconda and McHenry plants when they close Oct. 12, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Human resources director Al Fletcher said Tuesday the decision to relocate operations to Juarez, Mexico, was made about two months ago. That’s when Trump announced tariffs on numerous goods and materials from China as well as other countries.

Maybe they can make stack-on coffins, since Juarez is now known as the murder capital of the world.

Punish those businesses who move to Mexico and China.

How about provide comparable labor costs by not requiring so many benefits? Consumers seek the best products at the lowest prices, why should a business not be allowed to serve their customers?

The owner is either a deranged Trump hater or is being paid off to do this.

So if they have a quality product made in the US, and have to raise their prices ccordingly, people would till buy their product. I know I-would... By relocating the remainder of their business south of the border, won’t a tariff be imposed on their product? So what’s the point of this or the story itself?

Waukegan is just a suburb of Juarez, Mexico, so probably many of those residents worked at the Illinois plants.

FAKE NEWS!

That sentence is "reporting" what HR guy said.

That’s when Trump announced tariffs on numerous goods and materials from China as well as other countries.

THAT sentence is NOT reporting what HR guy said, but a connection made by AP!

Neither sentence in and of itself is a lie, but the manner they are presented equals FAKE NEWS!

While what you say may be partially true, we are not presently involved in a trade war...

Yeah we are

...and the Trump trade negotiations have nothing to do with Illinois being a terrible place to be in business..

This is a company that has been doing business in Illinois for how long and they're suddenly realizing that it's a terrible place to be in business? I doubt this decision was only two months in the making, and maybe the tariffs are only a convenient excuse to offshore their remaining manufacturing, but it doesn't hide the fact that there will be casualties in this trade war. The media are going to highlight the pain and gloss over the gains, so the gains will have to be transparent in and of themselves.

It's almost as if years of Demwit rule have squeezed another company of out doing business in Illinois. Thanks KeyLargo.

Yeah we are

In the same sense that we are not involved in a war on islam.

In both cases the other side is fully involved while we just stick our fingers in our ears and go la-la-la-LA-LA-la-la-la...

Juarez is just a wonderful garden spot. Just take the battery out of your car every night while it’s parked. My neighbor has his truck stolen in ABQ Tuesday - its no doubt across the border as that is the MO of these theives - only a couple of hours away and they likely made it across before he even knew it was gone.

Thanks, I’m looking for a smaller safe but haven’t decided which one may be the best. I’ll check out Liberty Safe and others. If I can, I try to buy USA. I’ve found that it isn’t really that much more if you look around.

Illinois ranks as one of most anti-Trump states in new survey

August 16, 2018

CHICAGO - If you’ve ever wondered why you don’t see very many Trump bumper stickers or red MAGA caps when you’re out and about in Illinois, well there’s a reason: Trump isn’t well-liked here, in case you haven’t noticed.

In fact, Illinois is one of the nation’s most anti-Trump states, according to a state-by-state approval rating poll released by Morning Consult. Illinois disapproves of Trump almost as much as Left Coast California and East Coast New York
