Victor Davis Hanson: Never Trumpers Told Us Trump Would Be Liberal, He Wasn't; No Alternative Agenda

VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Barack Obama got elected twice but he was an ungodly disaster for the Democratic party. They lost the supermajority, they lost the Senate, they lost the House, they lost 1,000 local state and local offices, they're going to lose the Supreme Court. And they can't come to grips with the fact that they control popular cultural -- sports, universities, the media -- but that turns into this type of street theater you referenced. It doesn't transfer into actual political power and they're very frustrated.

The Never Trumpers told us that Trump would be a moderate or a liberal. He wasn't. The Heritage Foundation said he was more conservative in his first 2 years than Ronald Reagan. The left said he was going to implode or that the Mueller investigation, or impeachment, or the emoluments clause, or they were going to sue under the 25th Amendment. None of that happened. So Trump is almost 50% approval rating.

And the final thing is there's no alternative agenda. We don't know what your speaker, your guest, what do they feel about taxes? Do they want more government? More regulation? Less? Is the Iran deal good or bad? We don't hear any of that. Instead, they fixate on somebody like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, kind of an obscure 28-year-old who won an election with 20% turnout and suddenly that's a metaphor for a brave new world. So it's a frustration that they don't translate their cultural influence into raw political power.

Donald Trump is obviously a very old and highly evolved soul.

This is why his insights are so keen, his intelligence so extraordinarily high, and his behavior so puzzling to the incognoscenti.

Such souls, when they incarnate, often take onto themselves the karma of other people--because they can--and because love is the fundamental state of all souls.

President Trump has taken on the karma of an entire nation, and even more.

Our concepts of reincarnation, of the samsara, of karma, of enlightenment, and other concepts of Hindu/Buddhist mythology are naive, as our concepts in general tend to be. As St. Paul said, "We see through a glass darkly, but then face to face;" as Plato observed, our understanding of absolute truth is about like understanding an object by observing its shadow; and as our contemporary physicists theorize, the world that we observe seems to be a hologram.

Similarly, our concept of the bodhisattva tends to be unsophisticated.

Some highly enlightened souls, when they incarnate, take on as much karma as they can, and thus help other souls (even the concept of the soul is only an approximation) find a way to enlightenment.

Highly enlightened souls tend to maintain an awareness of the world of pre-incarnation/post-incarnation (spirituality, heaven, the bardo state, etc.), in which our souls actually live, most of us for the most part unaware, during incarnation, and this awareness gives them insights and awareness that contribute to what we would consider extraordinary intelligence.

NeverTrumpers are really Cheap Labor Express stooges that do not want US to deport the 30 million illegal aliens they invited here with their 30 year bipartisan policy of non-enforcement of laws and borders.

I figured Trump would have strong lib tendencies, but thought it would be fun for the first two years after which Trump would tire of the job and possibly leave.

The first 1.5 years have certainly been entertaining far beyond my expectations.

“So much winning”

I have been pleasantly surprised.

I’ve been a Trump supporter since his first debate when he said that he would run independent if he didn’t get the GOP nomination.

I also said throughout the elections that he was probably going to not be the GOP great that he claimed he would.

I was wrong, obviously, but who can blame me ?

The Clinton’s / Kerry’s / Heinz’ / Schumers / et al are his friends. They party together.

He is a NYC resident. Which means he is not nor will he ever be, a freedom loving patriot.

On many issues he is fiscally conservative. But on matters of freedom, international policy, and even domestic social policy he’s been on the wrong side for more than 20 years.

Now of course he’s proven me wrong. And I’m happy for that. He had my vote since day 1 because he wasn’t Hillary Clinton. And the rest of the GOP field was basically Hillary Clinton. All of the GOP contenders were actually RINO traitors. Trump wasn’t a traitor. He just wasn’t that much of a conservative to begin with.

When I voted this time I didn’t hold my nose. I prayed. Everyone at my polling place prayed (We are 85% Republican in my area, 96% vote Republican in my district) because he literally saved the world from destruction.

There is a difference between myself and a “never-trumper”. I was “Yes Trump” all the while acknowledging that his liberal friends and associates had to be or else he wouldn’t make it as a NYC business man and developer.

I had to pray that his relationships were only there for that purpose - to be a successful city developer.

I still don’t see my 2nd amendment being protected in any real way.

I don’t think President Trump is liberal or conservative, in the conventional sense. He is a practical man who’s goal is to turn this country around.

I think most will agree that the height and depth and width of the swamp surprised everyone (everyone outside of the swamp), including DJT. I also think he assumed he would get SOME help; some backup from the Republican Party, the leadership, and/or rank-and-file republican. Hardly.

Applauding this President for his political leanings, or criticizing him for not being liberal or conservative is, under these circumstances, quite unfair.

The greatest thing about Mr Trump is how he is flushing out all the deep state moles in our party.

We call them the never Trumpers, but Trump, gets them to self identify as Deep state Moles.

MAGA! Keep your powder dry boys! And don’t shoot till you see the white of their eyes!

Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump were similar in several ways:

-Both were successful in careers prior to going into Politics.

- Both have extensive TV experience, and this experience honed their political skills to razor-sharp tip.

-Both were once Democrats (I remember some talk in 1988 about drafting Donald Trump to run for President...as a Democrat).

-Both are divorcees. I heard that it was Wyman who dumped Ronald, while we all know about Trump's love life.

-Both loved/love America and worked/work very hard to make America better. Differences:

- Ronald Reagan wasn't a great father. His best kid was adopted...and he was raised by Jane Wyman. The two Ronald and Nancy had are utter disasters as people.

-Donald J. Trump's kids are all strong and well-grounded. He may have been a bit of a cad when it comes to being faithful, but he sure did raise his kids right.

-Ronald Reagan was a movement Conservative. He inspired us with his talk and actions. Donald J. Trump is much more of a pragmatist (I never would've thought a sitting US President would meet with the leader of the most oppressive Communist country on earth).

Ronald Reagan was my first vote for President when I turned 18 in 1980. I'm just as happy with my vote for Donald J. Trump as I was for Reagan back then.

Who the Hell is a poser? Some of us had legitimate concerns over a candidate that had supported liberal democrats in the recent past. Just because this particular candidate didn’t immediately swerve back to the left doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have been pointing that out.

Trump so far is doing better than I expected but he isn’t perfect. It is important to keep an eye on all of his administration’s policies. Anytime they step out of line ideologically someone needs to point it out. This isn’t a personality cult, although some of you seem to think it is.

“I still don’t see my 2nd amendment being protected in any real way.”

Aside from getting judges in place, how would a president fix the 2nd Amendment, when the States and Congress are responsible for laws?
