This NY Times excerpt provided more insight on Schumer’s critical moment against Trump:
“In an hourlong meeting on Capitol Hill with House Republicans, Mr. Trump declined to explicitly back either one, saying he would sign both bills. Republican leaders are trying to rally support for the compromise bill.
“The president was very firm in explaining why it’s so important that he gets this bill to his desk so that we can solve some problems and secure our border,” said Representative Steve Scalise of Louisiana, the Republican whip. He added, “We want to secure our border; we want to reunite kids. Our bill does just that.”
Mr. McConnell said he planned to reach out to Democrats to support his conference’s effort, hoping to stanch the political damage from the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy that has led to heartbreaking stories of children separated from their mothers.
But Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic leader, immediately shot down the Republican approach, saying that Mr. Trump could — and should — use his executive authority, not legislation, to quickly end the family separations.

Here is what I predict will happen after Trump’s EO:
Democratic voters who are currently celebrating a “win” will turn against the executive order as they realize it did not achieve the DNC goal of ending the zero tolerance policy.
Next, news will surface that, armed with SCOTUS precedents, an appeals court (almost certainly the 9th Circuit of Appeals) will strike down the executive order as illegal ( BTW, In my opinion, the EO *IS* illegal and an usurpation of the law, so yes, it will and should lose).
Sometime later, the SCOTUS will almost certainly agree, as the legislative landscape will not change. The inevitable conclusion from these events is nearly where we are now:
Trump will square off with the DNC again, insisting that lack of legislation allowing families to be detained together is the cause of families being separated.
This time, most Americans will understand that an executive order can’t keep families awaiting trial together. The only question is, will the DNC be honest about their goal of using the familial separation to end zero tolerance, or will they find yet another way to obscure their true goals?
And by that time, it will be close to the Mid term elections. WE SHALL SEE WHAT THE VOTERS DECIDE....

Schumer would climb over a pile of dead illegal immigrant children to be Senate Majority Leader. That is all this is about.
There is a solution to the issue where the left organizes waves of illegals to storm the border and overwhelm the process, then uses the chaos to try to score political points.
We have consulates all over Mexico and elsewhere. We need to stop trying to process these people at the border. Once they reach the border the left has changed so many of our immigration laws it is hard to process them within the allowed time frame, forcing some to be released, that is why they come in waves- to overwhelm the system. We all know if we release them 80% will not show up for court hearings and melt into the already overwhelming number of illegals we already have here.
Stop doing that process at the border. Staff the consulates to process them, and do not allow anyone to cross the border that has not already completed the process and been granted asylum or other legal status to enter this country. The number floating around is that only a very small tiny percentage of those claiming asylum are actually granted it. Using asylum claims improperly is something the dims came up with to get large numbers of illegals in abusing our laws.
We need to hammer anyone with an R to make this happen. I see nothing that could be used as a hammer by the left in doing this. This would actually help the people actually qualified in that they would not have to make that long dangerous trip in order to apply for real asylum.
Knowing Mexico the way I do, I would bet a lot of money when the chaos of the fake asylum seekers is in their country instead of at our border they will shut their door to the waves of illegals coming up. Problem solved.
I disagree with this. The EO quite clearly states that the President wants to follow a policy of both zero tolerance AND keeping families together WITHIN the confines of the law.
IOW, I'd like to, and as far as I can, I will allow the families to remain together, BUT that court in Cali needs to provide relief from the recent ruling AND congress needs to appropriate money as well as get rid of the "bad mean" law that forces me to separate children from their families pending adjudication. I also want to reduce their suffering and want their cases handled in en expedited manner.
Not sure what part of that is a usurption of power ...

He would create that pile if he thought it would work.
It would be cheaper to put them on a plane with first class tickets back to their home country to be detained on US Embassy grounds until they can be processed there.
They simply cannot foresee even the most obvious of consequences.
I think it's a mental defect, not a willful descision.

So the democrats think Trump is Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot all rolled into one yet they want him to fix the problem. Why would they want Hitler to fix anything when they can and should?
Zero tolerance like the sound of that securing America is always a good thing.
