Cruz's flip-flop on family separation shows threat to GOP

"All of us are horrified at the images we're seeing." He said he's talked with the White House about legislation he plans to introduce to stop the separations, though its exact language hasn't yet been released... "We can stop this. The legislation I'm filing this week would prohibit separating families, would mandate that kids should stay with their parents." He said his bill would double the number of federal immigration judges to ensure that asylum cases are heard within two weeks. "If the claim is not valid, and many of those coming here illegally don't have valid claims for asylum, then within 14 days that claim should be processed and they should be returned to their home country," Cruz said. "During that expedited process, we can and should keep families together, keep children with their moms and dads and we need to stand up temporary shelters."

He can appear to be very disturbing because he is likely disturbed.

Might be his wife’s influence.

Gosh, I don't know that it's a bad solution. Cruz's plan would keep the families together, but keep them in facilities until their situation is resolved. Locking the parents up instead of giving them a court date would be a real good way to make sure they don't disappear. Besides that, it might create a situation judges can't overturn.

One thing I trust Cruz for is being legally smart.

“Round up all the leftists and ship them to Liberia...”

Yes, and a s soon as those ship enter deep water, send in the attack subs to torpedo them to the bottom of the ocean.

No mercy. No quarter. No survivors.

So there will be yet another seperation... me supporting Cruz in 2024. Apparently Trump had his number correct in 2016.

Lots of people aren't thinking this through.

President Trump is asking for new legislation (as opposed to the preferred tactic of simply choosing not to enforce the current law).

He's asking Congress to do their jobs!

Congress doesn't want to write a law that's weak on illegal immigration because they know it's political poison. They'd rather write laws that are strong on illegal immigration and then quietly not enforce them.

Along comes Ted Cruz with a law that not only fast-tracks deportation but also DOUBLES the number of federal immigration judges (that Trump will get to choose).

It's awesome!

It has no chance.

“Isn’t is sad that so many FReepers hate Ted Cruz? “

Yes.

FR in large part has become a gaggle of superficially reactive folks.

Ted has a good plan. Both politically and functionally.

Lock them all up together, quick legal review, send most back home. I assume that if Trump proposed it, the haters would love it.

Cruz is bowing to the political reality in Texas.

Cruz has been an Immigration Dove (pro-guest workers, deport only convicted felons) since he ran for the U.S. Senate in 2012.

Cruz also helped write G.W. Bush's Immigration platform before the 2004 election - but, he has never disclosed what parts he wrote.

Texas Population By Ethnicity...

White - 42.6%

Hispanic - 39.1%

Black - 12.6%

Asian - 4.8%

The only reason that the GOP still dominates Texas is because a significant share of non-whites are not eligible to vote, and because white Conservatives have the highest level of voter turn out.

Isn’t is sad that so many FReepers hate Ted Cruz? Their hatred runs deep, and causes them to adopt the most absurd ideas.

FR is a conservative site. RINO hacks like Cruz will never be popular here.

Ted Cruz has apparently decided to throw away his conservative support and play the Washington establishment’s anti-Trump game.

So be it.

Ted Cruz, from this point forward, is dead to me.

No flip-flop on Cruz’s part. Big flip-flop on the media’s part.

There are a number of options.

If mom & dad & children are captured, allow one parent to cross the border south with the children and arrest the other.

Allow the Mexican consul to take the Mexican children back to Mexico.

Allow the child/children to accompany the parents to the courthouse.

“All of us are horrified at the images we’re seeing.”

No, I’m not.

That’s the way hundreds of thousands of homeless American citizens live for extended periods of time because our country has become overpopulated.

They are lucky, they have a roof over their heads.

American homeless people endure summer heat and winter cold outdoors or in cars.

Was he in Canada when his dad was passing out anti Castro flyers? Maybe he remembers the separation.

He only got citizenship at 16. He entered the USA as a Canadian. I realize he was ELIGIBLE FOR CITIZENSHIP from birth, but nothing was done about it til that school trip.

“asylum cases”

There are no valid asylum cases involving people from Latin America.
