Whoops. I left out Bobby Darin. Also Sammy Davis Jr, Johnny Mathis, and Tony Bennett.
My friend has been very kind with me and other close friends...and it’s not a secret in the industry. It’s a widely available perk among insiders.
Yep, I’ll give that a second. I also recently discovered Sabaton, Korpiklaani, and Heidevolk. I’ve also been cruising off into the bluegrass, Mean Mary, Rhonda Vincent, Rain and Thunder...
Sorry Thunder and Rain...I haven’t had my morning g Monster yet.
Totally agree. The music is awful anymore.
“I consider 90% of Rap to be incoherent, nonsensical babbling.
But thats just me”
No, it’s not just you.
Ive actually picked up plenty of new material since hitting 30 - Bluegrass, Reggae and Jazz mostly. As far as rock goes, there really hasnt been much produced in this century thats been worth a crap - at least not by new groups. Most popular music now is infested with (c)rap which Ive hated since it first appeared in the mid 80s.
Interesting. I like to mine through the old classic rock and listen to music I somehow missed.
Never heard of any of these groups, but these days with the personal assistants you just say “play ___” and the playlist of any group is available for sampling.
Also you can pick a type of music and let the playlist play—if you like the music you ask what it is—and you have a new group and/or song you like.
There is actually an overwhelming amount of great choices out there for all kinds of tastes.
Nightwish is excellent. Operatic, really.
Been doing a lot of that lately, especially Eric Clapton. Came across "Motherless Children", found out it was written in 1927 by Blind Willie Johnson. I thought Eric wrote it, as his mother abandoned him as a child.
I enjoy watching documentaries about the lives of artists I like, they paint a broader picture.
I grew up with Hard Rock music from the 1960’s; hated Disco, but grew to appreciate Country Music in the 2000’s, and now at age 64 I am discovering Sinatra!....wierd.
I’d like to listen to some “newer” good music from the 90’s to expand my horizon, couldn’t fine any so I went back to the 60’s and 70’s.

This is why I like Pandora, they are introducing unknown artists all the time.
That, and YouTube, which when you are listening to something you like, there are other artitsts on the page you havent heard of. So Im constantly finding musicians I like that I never heard of before.
What I hate is radio, especially where I live, there is absolutely nothing I like. So I accumulate music on the Kindle and have, over the years, got several hours of music. I keep adding more as I stumble onto it, so it stays fresh.
“Million Dollar Quartet” and a visit to Sun Studio in Memphis took me back to the 50s.
I saw this South Park episode.
No doubt the big band era and other 50’s music was awesome, they were actually musicians. Want to hear some guitar from the 70’s to today, look up Steve Morse: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwj1jM-c7d_bAhVGwVkKHR_ZDeAQFghZMAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.guitarworld.com%2Fartists%2Fsteve-morse-discusses-his-reunion-and-upcoming-tour-with-dixie-dregs&usg=AOvVaw3GuDdSAaQKkF5wiuqcIE1x
Yep.
Graduated h.s. early ‘70s. Listened mostly to ‘San Francisco sound’ stuff.
The music I listen to now I discovered after I was 30 and much after I was 40; classic jazz, classic blues, Gilbert & Sullivan, Folk Revival. I really love American Standards, of which Sinatra is a great example even though I was never a Sinatra fan.
If you like instrumental music, check out The Dixie Dregs. They were unique, and all the band members were outstanding musicians. Steve Morse wrote most of their songs, and he had an interesting take on contrapuntal melodies.
