As Nashville Rapidly Expands, Residents Worry the Metropolis Is Growing Too Fast
Wall Street Journal ^

NASHVILLE— Kathleen Ervin moved here 12 years ago from the Northeast, drawn to the relaxed atmosphere, green parks and relatively low cost of living.

But in the past five years, her commute time from her 1950s ranch house in the Glendale neighborhood to her job about 12 miles away has tripled on some days to 45 minutes because of increased traffic. Developers are buying nearby properties, tearing them down and building “tall skinnies”—multistory homes geared toward wealthier home buyers.

“We hear all this talk about how Nashville doesn’t want to become Houston, Nashville doesn’t want to become Atlanta,” said the 54-year-old account manager at a merchant processor. “Who is preventing that from happening?”

I live just a few miles from I-35 and I avoid it like the plague.

I forgot to add. Although the terrain was not to my liking, the people was friendly and gracious.

Of course they were. All Southerners pride themselves on their manners. Their mammas would beat them if they weren’t.

Now if you don’t mind your manners, well, then.. Katie, bar the door!

What passes as conservative in the NE is outright Communist in the South. That is why we need a clause in our state constitutions that specifies native born to the state to hold office.

The more liberals and Progressives move into this area....the worse it gets.

I think it will a close race. Bredesen didn’t govern as a wide eyed liberal and he left office with a lot of goodwill among Tennesseans. However people have had enough of anything Democratic and we should get used to saying “Sen. Blackburn”

(Marsha is my congresscritter and proudly so!)

The 7th congressional’s loss will be the country’s gain!

That describes the majority of Southerners :)

I’ve traveled a bit and it’s always amusing to me how people response to my “yes, please” or “no, thank you” or simply being pleasant.

People just need to understand that good manners and kindness doesn’t mean we are idiots :D

Where Are All the New Residents of Nashville Moving From?

It looks like 42% of the people moving to Nashville in recent years are from other parts of Tennessee.

The largest numbers of out-of-staters are from Chicago and Los Angeles, but also Atlanta and Houston.

So I don't think you can blame whatever's happening on New Yorkers and New Jerseyans.

Rather, it's big city people (who may just be from Atlanta) moving into what's becoming a big city.

As a lifelong resident of Nashville, I’ve known Bredesen for over 3+ decades, since before he ran for Mayor (first time in 1987) and was at HCA. The guy is a left-winger, and is from the northeast (he first ran for office in Massachusetts in the ‘70s, which tells you something right there). I’ve been bemused by folks that thought he governed “centrist.” He was a rotten Mayor who focused so much energy on downtown that other parts of the city turned to $hit (especially mine, which never recovered since its 1980s zenith), and the crime rate exploded, too.

This is the guy who pretty much confirmed where he stands when he sent out Christmas cards with the portrait of a Mohammadan girl on them. This phony will be a 100% down-the-line leftist. He’s got nothing to lose. He’s old (75 in November) and can spend his last years screwing Tennessee, Trump, and Conservatives that he hates.

Oh I agee.

He, and his wife’s true self will emerge once they get to Washington where politicians always seem to “evolve” and to the left, not to the right (Trump is unique in this.)

His wife’s view’s were leaking back when he was mayor.

A Hillary clone, I believe local wags were calling her.

Feminist, pro-abortion, anti-gun, etc.etc.

I just visited Nashville and the city was over run with vagrants. Not to the extent of San Franfreako but trending that way.

His wife has always given me the creeps. Ice cold.

I get a kick out of his bull$hit commercials. He’ll vote with Trump when he “agrees” with him. Of course, he doesn’t agree with Trump on anything. He leaves out THAT part.

D/FW is governed by the North Texas Council of Governments. They will build to the Red River over time.

Their goal is to attract as many corporate heads as possible and move all their employees there.

You can’t hear the groan of agony which your reminder just caused. I somewhat reap the benefits, but property taxes are killing me

Keep in mind...where are they going to get the water for all these people?

Oklahoma said no and prevailed in a court case when NTCG wanted to force water supply from OK.

You might recall we had a Jewish lady from California move to Franklin about 15 years ago and right off started a campaign to tear down Chip the confederate soldier memorial on the town square, a spot Chip has occupied for 130 years

She failed and left

Every chance they get agitator groups try again

If they get much steam one day the wardaddy family will be there to fight

I’m sick of these asswipes and their cadre here

There is no more Chet Atkins string country like the 60s anymore anywhere

Nashville actually does in places have very good music
