Just to make the neighbor happy, I guess she could have gone back and shot him in the foot.

It says something about you that you think restraining people and then repeatedly buggering them is in any way a good thing.
Are you from San Francisco, by any chance?

Nathan Fillion but it was CASTLE, before IT went south, not FIREFLY.

I think it may have been both.
I googled a little and my memory was off — I think the Captain (Nathan Fillion) was about to be killed, but Jayne shot the bad guy (in the leg). Captain Reynolds says Nice Shot and Jayne says “I was aiming at his head”.
I never watched “Castle” but there were a lot of call-backs to Firefly in Castle and I think this bit showed up in Castle as one of those references.
Also, apparently, there was a 1970s British sci-fi show called “Blake’s 7” which originates this sort of exchange.

I would put a big sign at the entry of the neighborhood advertising that “they already dispatched one burglar. Want to be next?”.

It is certainly the logical response. Anyone who forcibly enters your home should be assumed to have either deadly intentions to start with, or at least a willingness to employ deadly force if encountered.

Be a good shot and get 2 with one shot. Most people (myself included) can't shoot like Quigley Down Under on the range, let alone under stress. The homeowner did fine.

So you think tying two men up and buggering them for five days (or even once) is an appropriate response to them committing burglary?
I do not consider that preferable to shooting them.
Shooting them, while they are still a threat is legitimate self defense.
Harming them after having restrained them is a crime.
You're making a hero out of a rapist ... and your excuse for doing so is that he committed rape. That tells me everything I need to know about you.
