Trump’s tweets slam Canada and Trudeau anew from Singapore

QUEBEC CITY (AP) — President Donald Trump took more swipes at Canada and its prime minister over trade issues as he settled in for a summit with North Korea in Singapore, contending that “Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal.”

Trump roiled the Group of Seven meeting in Canada by first agreeing to a group statement on trade only to withdraw from it while complaining that he had been blindsided by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s criticism of Trump’s tariff threats at a summit-ending news conference. As he flew from Canada to Singapore Saturday night, Trump displayed his ire via Twitter, which he also employed to insult Trudeau as “dishonest” and “weak.”

The attack on a longtime ally and its leader drew sharp criticism. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who also attended the summit, told German public television that she found Trump’s tweet disavowing the G-7 statement “sobering” and “a little depressing.” Merkel also said the European Union would “act” against the U.S. trade measures.

Unbowed, Trump tweeted anew Monday morning from Singapore: “Fair Trade is now to be called Fool Trade if it is not Reciprocal. According to a Canada release, they make almost 100 Billion Dollars in Trade with U.S. (guess they were bragging and got caught!). Minimum is 17B. Tax Dairy from us at 270%. Then Justin acts hurt when called out!”

I cant stand Justin, but I am not a big fan of Trump doing this. I still support Trump otherwise.

The USA has been defending them since Hitler or longer.

>True, but not since Hitler.

Canada, as a percentage of their population, probably sacrificed more than America to defeat Hitler. Most Brits who fought against Hitler, will tell you the Canadians were their best and toughest fighters.

If I’m not mistaken, I think Canada fielded an entire Army in Europe. America had many more soldiers on the field, of course, but not as a percentage of each countries population.

Canada was the Commonwealth’s breeding ground for fighter aces and Victoria Crosses. Of course, those days are long gone.

You Yanks should’t base your judgment of Canada on a panty-waist PM like Trudeau, any more than we judge America based on your panty-waist President Obama.

The Canadian military has a proud history, in spite of recent social engineering of the same type that is infecting the US military. The Canadian Army was on the doorstep of Rome in 1944 when the Americans were still crawling along the coast from Anzio (and had to wait for two days to permit the Americans to set up the camera crews for the entry to Rome). Had Clarke done his job and cut off the German retreat, instead of grandstanding towards Rome, the war in Italy would have ended months earlier and freed up troops for the push through France and Holland. Many thousands of American, Canadian and British troops died needlessly in the mountains north of Rome because of Clark’s stupidity.

The average Canadian outside the major urban centres is small-c conservative. Unfortunately the waves of immigration (95% of which ends up in a handful of major cities) have greatly reduced our ability to influence national elections. Don’t p*ss on your friends.

Our military is exceptional DESPITE decades of neglect. After the liberal destruction and Harper arrived, we needed 10% year over year budget increases just to keep it up to snuff. Even Harper didn’t manage that.

Sadly Canadians are not made of the same stuff as those in WWII. And I agree this importation of Syrians is going to destroy us.

Have you actually read my post? On the fight against Hitler, what I posted was similar to what you said.

Since Hitler, however, on defending the free world, there is little comparison of what America has done. I would hope Canada has done more than post 25 has it: two mounties, five canoes, and a flying squirrel.

I think I see what you are driving at.

Canada my have contributed greatly helping the Brits defeat Hitler in Europe, but in the Pacific war, different story. It was almost exclusively an American effort, with Britain in Burma a sideshow, Canada making very little contribution helping America defeat the Japs.
