“I am in agreement with President Trump,” Mr. Conte tweeted Friday. “Russia should reenter the G8. It is in everyone’s best interests.”

Conte’s comment followed remarks by President Trump earlier on Friday regarding Russia’s role in the group of leading industrialized nations (G7).

“With that being said, Russia should be in this meeting,” Trump said of the G7 summit, which begins Friday in Quebec. “Why are we having a meeting without Russia being in the meeting?”

“Whether you like it or not, and it may not be politically correct, but we have a world to run,” Trump said. “And in the G-7, which used be the G-8, they threw Russia out. They should let Russia come back in because we should have Russia at the negotiating table.”

Obama and U.S. allies ousted Russia from the G8 in March of 2014

Trump is a thousand times smarter than all these other guys.
I thought it was going to be the G6, without the United States.

And then Trump goes changes it to talk about Russia.

LOL, these other guys are a bunch of slackers

The man just keeps on out-"smarting” them all. It is a complete joy watching Trump operate!......and then watching the Dems get torqued out trying to figure out what he's doing!

To the open-borders, globalist, financial class, Russia represents nationalism, borders, language, and state-sponsored Christianity - all outside the US Dollar system as well. They are a military power and on the border of Europe. Russia encouraging the “deplorables” around Europe is a great threat to these people.

Well their countries voted for ‘pretty boys’ so that’s ‘all’ they got! I sure wouldn’t call those two leaders.....putty in Trumps hands as they cannot reach his level by any means.

Trump wants to get us either out of NATO to dramatically reduce how much we spend on NATO and build a better relationship with Russia but the EU bureaucrats and the US Deep State are fighting against that tooth and nail. From their perspective, ending NATO or even downsizing our commitment to it disrupts one of the gravy trains they've been riding for decades.

Seems to me that with saying anyone that doesn't go along with sanctions against Russia and Iran will also have US sanctions imposed on them and now with saying we should go back to the G8 format (which discounts the value of the democrat/Eurocrat "Russia, Russia, Russia" meme to zero) is his way of getting to his goal through a back door.

He'll make enough trouble for them that they'll be anxious to have less US control of anything in Europe starting with our permanent leadership roles within NATO which often take precedence over what the Eurocrats want..

NATO stopped being the entity it was designed for long ago. Heck they just announced if Gaza attacked Israel they would NOT assist Israel because they aren’t a member....yet look at what we flood into Ukraine who isn’t either!

And then Trump goes changes it to talk about Russia.

So go from the G-7 to the G-5 (UK, France, Germany, Japan, and Canada) and the G-3 (U.S., Russia, Italy).

Our $20 Trillion GDP is more than the other G7 countires combined.

We can create another economic group in the blink of the eye and let the bankster globalist assholes go pound sand!

..”Merkel is 10 times our enemy as is Putin”...

I fully agree..for now. I do not however underestimate Putin though... He still needs to be watched carefully.

Right now he truly desires a relationship with Trump because he respects him and knows he’ll do business. Putin is primarily about that and needs to continue to lift his country up.

I just loved it when Putin pulled Lavrov out of N.Korea as soon as the response wasn’t favorable that he was there. Lavrov loved showing up, he’s old style politics, but Putin pulled him out that very night! LOLOL

Why would we want to? What's the benefit to us?

I’m on the fence with India.....that’ll remain until they get out of their caste system and the people clean up their culture. Both are very slow coming.

The real question should be, what benefit are we really gaining from the G7?

Currently all the trade deals are rigged against the American worker. Is that what you are advocating?

It benefits them more than us and they are trying to use the G7 for their globalist ends — such as the stupid climate change conference that President Trump wisely will not be attending.

I am half Korean with some Russian/Ukrainian ancestry on my European side and take the fate of both regions extremely personally. My parents met near the DMZ at the height of the Cold War.

We are not in a “Cold War” with Russia per se, but it is a “Hybrid” one with some added nuances and with China playing a greater leading role. Russian and Chinese people understand this perfectly and are overjoyed by the lack of Western resolve and unity.

Western European entities such as France, Britain, and Germany are irresolute and flakey as usual, but to insinuate that we should in any way acknowledge let Russian and Chinese aggression go unchecked is the ultimate height of idiocy.

Poland, Romania, the Baltic States (Lithuania/Estonia/Latvia) are a lot less flakey. They are our truest allies in Europe. They pay into NATO no problem. They aren’t calling for saving things like the Iran Nuke Deal. Poland has even offered $2 billion dollars for a permanent US base.

Germany meanwhile is allowing Russia’s monopoly on European energy go unchecked with Merkel signing the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline Deal. Not by accident that Trump’s trade war with Europe sped up shortly afterwards. American ambassadors were working really hard to stop the deal.

Hungary, Italy, and Czech Republic would be great allies too had Russian-trollers not taken advanatage of their grievances with the E.U. - It is vital that conservative and populist movements in Europe be rid of Kremlin influence and false Kremlin-driven narratives — which apparently, even members of Free Republic are falling prey to as well.

You're the one who said we could establish another economic group in the blink of an eye. If all trade deals are rigged against us then who would establishing a new economic group do for us? If the current groups aren't of benefit to us then why would different ones be any different?
