Trump says he is likely to support ending federal ban on marijuana

President Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.

Trump’s remarks put him sharply at odds with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.

Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed their measure.

One of the lead sponsors is Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is aligned with Trump on several issues but recently has tangled with the administration over the Justice Department’s threatened crackdowns on marijuana.

“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

“There are going to be real human consequences”

Is there anyone in America today that wants to smoke pot, but does not because of the law or availability?

Makes it tough on the cops to do unauthorized vehicle searches by claiming they smelled weed...they’re not going to like it.

And YEP, the millennials will LOVE TRUMP for this...I doubt the Dems can even handle this much longer.

doing it while insurers are still required under Federal law to cover drug treatment for their insured is preposterous.

Marijuana is less addictive than alcohol or tobacco. And anyone who before legalization was responsible enough to not use illegal marijuana will after legalization remain responsible enough to not become an addict.

Marijuana is harmless. Legalize it. Go after the hard stuff, like heroin. Seattle is going to have a mobile van which will be a safe injection site to allow addicts to shoot up under supervision. Jeff Sessions needs to go after that. I would think a strongly worded letter to the Seattle City Council about the ramifications of a safe injection site ( seizure, arrest) would be forthcoming, but all I hear is nothing.

The problem will be the unemployable users

Put marijuana in the NCO and Officers Clubs, and you’ll never have to worry about manpower shortages.

The effect on military readiness? I do have concerns there.

“The problem will be the unemployable users, who is going to pay for them, are we just going to let them starve?”

There’s FAR more drunks. I have to deal with it every day, even at the professional level.

Late, sick all day.

Pot smokers are more difficult to spot.

Marijuana is harmless.

No, it's not - but it is less harmful than alcohol or, in many respects, tobacco.

It doesn’t actually end prohibition, it leaves the issue up to the states, where it resided perfectly happily before the feds decided to butt in. People who oppose the legalization of pot may still do so at a state level. Or city, or county - there are still dry counties in this country. This shouldn’t be a problem, and we have been here before.

I’m looking at it from a medical marijuana perspective. I know too many people personally who have used various forms of medical marijuana to CURE ailments that would have cost big bucks via your standard AMA/FDA approved methodologies.

Obamacare should not stop personal health care freedom. Let it collapse of its own weight. The insurers wanted it. They can die by it.

Civilized countries used to maintain penal colonies to deal with exactly that problem you describe.

The left thinks they have a winner with Pot. We need to take that from them. We also have other more glaring problems. Crossing off Pot as a FEDERAL issue would be a positive step.

This is the last straw...I don’t know of a more clear message to Jeff Sessions to give up the job.

It’s not just Recreational use, it’s Medicinal use. There are many uses for Cannabis derivatives including reducing severe Epileptic Seizures in Children.

As far as everyone bashing Sessions over this, the AG is tasked with enforcing the Law. He has said more than once that those who disagree with it should get the Legislature to change the Law.

We already take care of those people. Ever heard of the prison system?

At least now the dopers will have some incentive to work so they can get high - just like lots of boozers already do.
