My father in law’s dad abandoned them when he was 12. Scum.
He moved to Florida and never even bothered to divorce his wife to free her up. All thought he was dead till one day he popped up when my wife was about 12.
I met him once and was less than impressed. No one missed him when he died.
His only saving grace was that a preacher lived next door and led him to the Lord the day before he passed.
He lived a life of excess and disrespect to everyone.
If they think that, they're kidding themselves.
Reminds me of a poem my mother used to recite, long past most of her memories had faded: Here’s to Life ain’t it grand!
I just got a divorce from my old man.
I laughed and laughed at the judge’s decision.
He gave him the kids and they weren’t even his’n.
The family writes the obituary and may even pay for it in many small town papers... so guess who they went to for this one?
My guess, Written by the X-hubby.
BTW my sister lives in Springfield. I’ll have to call her tonight.
This was as printed in the local newspaper.
This type of obit speaks more about the character of the authors than the deceased.

Dittoes. Must suck for those kids to be so bitter.
Kind of like slugging the corpse with a baseball bat. Nothing to gain from it and the writer makes themselves small. No excuse for what the lady did, but just about all of us disappoint and hurt others at times. I don’t think casting that “stone” would make me feel better . . . probably worse. A dead person can’t be hurt anymore, but I think the writer will suffer on the inside from this for a long time to come.
“BTW my sister lives in Springfield.”
Have you visited her before? If not, go to Tommy’s Central Street Steak House in Springfield.
It’s a very good steakhouse way out in the middle of rural Minnesota. Came across it by accident two years ago as the wife and I were on a off the beaten path roadtrip.
A refreshingly honest summary of a sinful and selfish life which will hopefully serve as a warning to others. It is doubtful that the deceased ever made any real effort at reconciliation with the children she abandoned based upon the tone of the obituary they wrote. Hopeful she repented her self-serving ways before she died. May the Lord have mercy on her wicked soul as well as on everyone she hurt.
Agree. The obit could have been written without the obvious anger, not that it’s not justified. The “children” are certainly old enough to have dealt with this and put it to rest. Just a factual obit, void of loving commentary and flowery prose conveys the same message without the writer displaying their disdain.
“I cant wait to read both of the Clintons.”
LOL! Depending on the author, that could be some good reading!
Newspapers wouldnt have printed this before. People still did those things.
Ive never understood how when bad people die they are supposed to be treated as if they were good. Worshipped. Im not talking about normal fallible people. But Bush 41 is going to be worshipped and he was our enemy. Because he was evil quietly.
OTOH,we cannot be certain that this woman didn't clean up her life after these particularly unpleasant acts. And no,I won't take the word of the author(s) of this piece...I'd have to see evidence with my own eyes that she cannot, perhaps,be considered the "good thief" on Good Friday.
Seems like Mrs. Schunk was a skunk.
A nice change from the “she was the nicest person I ever knew”, “he’d give you the shirt off his back” type obituary so often seen.......
If you don’t want an obit like this, don’t live a life like that...
You only have to forgive someone who honestly asks for forgiveness
The judgment could be unconditional pardon because of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
The kids need to know that holding onto the pain gives no gain. The reason we need Jesus Christ is that we ALL like sheep have gone astray...Read Isaiah 53.
