. Did the government really "lose" nearly 1,500 kids who illegally crossed the border into the United States without their parents? And are any of them in New Jersey? A Trump administration official made headlines last month when he testified before a Senate committee that his department was unsure of "the whereabouts of 1,475 unaccompanied alien children" apprehended at the border. The revelation sparked the #WhereAretheChildren movement on social media -- and a protest Wednesday night in Newark -- questioning whether the government is properly caring for kids who cross the U.S. border alone. Government officials fired back this week, saying the idea that the 1,475 kids are "lost" is a mischaracterization. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials said they failed to make contact during an audit of the "sponsor families" that took in the unaccompanied children, perhaps because the families simply didn't answer the phone. Many of the sponsors are relatives of the children who are living in the country illegally themselves and are reluctant to check in with federal authorities, government officials said.
"This is the core of this issue: In many cases, HHS has been put in the position of placing illegal aliens with the individuals who helped arrange for them to enter the country illegally," said Health and Human Services Department Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan.
The controversy has put a spotlight on the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement program that oversees the care of of immigrant kids arriving in the U.S. alone -- including nearly 2,300 sent to live in New Jersey last year.

The proper care is the immediate return to a pick up point in central mexico so their parents to reunite and take back their responsibility. They are not out responsibility!!
The first thing you do is establish a youth camp in Montana...in the middle of nowhere. Quonset huts, chow halls, no urban life for forty miles, no video-gaming, no stores, no malls, and lay out the nature of ‘camp’. You can remain at camp, or go back home.
President Trump has work to do here.
If we had an Attorney General that person would be doing something.

Montana is too far from the border. Do it in Arizona or Texas.

Obama made sure that MS13 and other Latin gangs had plenty of young recruits.
I was once on a very late flight from Phoenix to Baltimore where a bunch of these young illegals were being shipped into the country, along with a few American handlers.
The whole sordid mess is on FR somewhere.
I’ve heard that the guy who replaced Sheriff Joe isn’t using the tent camp prison anymore.
This is all such a scam why would any country take in kids and parcel them out to other families all over the place, much less with all these people being here illegally? This is such an attempted takeover of our electoral system.
DACCA — the next generation.
Fairly close to Big Media’s “debunked” pizza parlour....
If we had States with spines they would put all shipped illegals of any kind on a bus right back to the border and drop them off at a deportation center there. After less than 10 bus returns any State that did that would receive no more shipments of illegal aliens.
States should bus them all to Washington DC. The swamp wants them in the country, so let DC have them all.
Maybe I’m being simple minded here, but if the illegal relatives or sponsors were readily available to claim the kids, why are they now unavailable?
MS-13 and cartels force some illegals to claim some of these kids just to allow them in, then they join their gang. The illegal sponsors are afraid, not of legal authorities, but of the criminal gangs.
Too bad our Attorney General died.
Oh the inhumanity! No one should be forced to go to NJ!
How old are these unaccompanied CHILDREN?
This is ONE of the most stupid things I’ve run across lately. OBVIOUSLY HHS was in contact with the families at one time for the placement of those CHILDREN knowing those adults were in the country illegally to begin with and now they want to complain that they aren’t cooperating with them?
Isn’t that like leaving open the barn door, letting all the animals escape and then saying they don’t know where to find them?
Is there anyone in DC with a brain in their head to put a stop to all this nonsense? “We have a job”. “We have a cabinet position”. “We get a paycheck” and “Oh! My! Look! There are problems and what do we do?” “I know - we’ll let the news report on the problem”.
I don’t care if the problem(s) came about in the current administration, the last administration or in one 20-30 years ago. Can’t we have SOMEONE - ANYONE just do their stinkin’ jobs anymore? If a department head sees a problem, get after it and forget whining about it...Is that too much to ask?
“”Maybe Im being simple minded here, but if the illegal relatives or sponsors were readily available to claim the kids, why are they now unavailable?””
Then we’ll be simple minded together. It’s so obvious. I posted after you - not reading all replies first - and you said it better...Is everyone in DC minus a brain?
Before a child is released the guardians should have to prove citizenship, post a bond and be fingerprinted.
“”After less than 10 bus returns any State that did that would receive no more shipments of illegal aliens.””
A couple of years ago a county/city in CA did exactly that. Somewhere in the Inland Empire maybe? Streets were blocked to keep the buses with illegals from unloading. I forget the details but it was worthy of headlines and praise for a job well done. I wasn’t sure I could find it but this is it - Murrieta, CA and it was 2014. Time flies when we’re being invaded, doesn’t it? And WHY isn’t this being done all over the country? I guess because the plans are a closely guarded secret now?
