Construction begins on San Diego border wall with ‘anti-climbing plate’

Construction on a section of President Trump's planned border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border began Friday in San Diego, according to local media.

Local news affiliate Fox 8 reported that a section of border wall that features an "anti-climbing plate" will replace about 14 miles of improvised border fencing created from scrap metal.

The section of the wall will begin about a half a mile from the Pacific Ocean, Fox reports, and will stand between 18-30 feet tall.

Rodney Scott, chief of Customs and Border Patrol for the San Diego area, told Fox 8 that the construction will improve public safety in the area.

“The construction of this new substantial wall will improve overall border security, the safety and effectiveness of Border Patrol agents, the safety of the public, and will enhance the atmosphere for business and commerce in the area,” Scott said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Acting Deputy Commissioner Ronald Vitiello added to the news station that Friday's launch of construction efforts represents an "important milestone" in Trump's plan to secure the U.S.'s border with Mexico.

“Under this President’s leadership, we have a renewed commitment to secure our border,” Vitiello said.

the wall should be ‘protected’ with a WELL STOCKED moat, and a system to keep the wall greased and at an angle with an ‘eave’ over hang making it virtually impossible to scale it.

Of course, where there is a will, there is a way, which is why Drones and Warthogs would have to support the marksman on OUR side...

To be fair, those wanting to go BACK should be given a nice escort and XXX dollars PER PERSON, no hassle, just cash and a hearty handshake with a ‘good luck’ bouquet.

Razor wire works well on prison walls, so why not use it on the border wall? Sharp punji sticks pointing up from the ground on the U.S. side would help as well.

Yes, I was trying to be somewhat ‘humane’ what with the moat being stocked with sharks and pirannahs etc. We can dredge it and call it the WALL canal pumping water in from the Pacific and Gulf of Mexico.

I do like the razor wire on the eave but was probably figuring it would be standard.

Anyway, we do need something for the drones, gunships and sharpshooters to do.

Have to let EVERYONE know if they beat the odds to the top of the wall, they will just become lead filled shark meals.

Sadly, the ‘Wall’ will become something to maintain sort of like the red light cameras when people figure may as well stop for it rather than pay the huge fine.

But we can be starting the 12th wonder of the world.

Maybe make it portable and Mexico will be renting it from us to protect ITS Southern Border....

Free enterprise and entrepreneurship are great for a good economy and job makers.

Razor wire is very effective. I guess the visual would be a deal breaker for some. Also having worked 30 years in a state prison we’d have birds caught in the wire, along with plastic bags, etc....Libs would scream about the inhumanity....

Lol.. a wonder of the world? The only wonderful thing is.. I wonder why it’s taken so long to get started. Sounds like midterm kabuki. A serious person would have been completing the final inch.

How, praetell, would your hypothetical “serious person” have accomplished it without a Congressional appropriation? Are you suggesting Trump is not serious?

You've seen those electric zappers that kill flying pests? The wall should electrify those anti-climbing plates so when the illegal pests reach for it - "ZAP!", and they fall into your moat. Roasted meat for whatever you stock in the moat (crocs?).

They should leave the planning process for people who really want to make sure there is a stop to it....

Compassionate ones like you and I would be a great start.

I also believe the wall should be built by those on the way out - pay them the prevailing wage and when XX dollars reached, escort them across the moat....after all, we gave them seed money to start their new life in a ‘strange’ land.

Nothing would insure public safety more than a bounty.
