2018 Elections: California Is Where The Democrats Are Facing A 'Self-Inflicted Disaster'

It’s been said before: the only thing that could potentially stop the Democrats from retaking the House is…the Democrats. Yet, there are other factors. First, is that Election Day was still far off when reports of record enthusiasm on the Left was reported. Second, there’s the continued positive news on the economic front. Consumer and small business confidence remains at record highs.  Over three million workers benefitting from Trump’s tax bill, along with over 250 companies. Now, at the same time, we still have a long ways to go, but polling shows that Democratic enthusiasm has cratered.

The ballot advantage for Democrats has also shrunk within single-digits—all of this is good news for the GOP. What we should be mindful of is the far left insurgency. The Democratic establishment has been brutally beaten by the far Left in the past couple of primaries, though they had a lackluster turnout in the Texas runoff. Nevertheless, this is where the Democratic Party is heading. All the more reason for why GOP voters need to turn out in 2018.

California is part of the path for the Democratic takeover. Yet, there’s a problem. The deep-blue state has so many Democrats running in several races that they could splinter the vote. Whittling down the field to where only Republicans appear on the ballot. In California, the two top vote getters in a primary advance to the general election, even if they’re from the same party. This has sent Democrats into panic mode (via NYT):

National Democrats, confronting mushrooming political chaos across Southern California, are pouring millions of dollars into congressional races to avert a self-inflicted disaster that could undermine their chances at taking control of the House.

After months of optimism that the state’s June 5 primary would position them to pick off seven Republican-held districts in November — a substantial down payment on reclaiming the House — Democrats are now trying to ensure that they do not hurt themselves because of their unusually crowded slates of candidates.

With so many Democrats running, the party’s fear is that the vote will be splintered, allowing Republicans — who have fewer candidates — to dominate some primaries. The party and allied groups are spending more than $4 million on just three campaigns, intervening in one contest to prop up a favored candidate; attacking a Republican from the right in another; and even reminding people not to waste their votes on “ghost candidates” who have dropped out yet remain on the ballot.

As any progressive activist will explain through gnashed teeth, the head-snapping scramble is because of the state’s “top two” open primary system, which allows the two leading vote-getters — regardless of political parties — to advance to the general election.

[…]

“It’s a disaster,” Gail Reisman, a retired gerontologist and Toronto native who lives in Representative Dana Rohrabacher’s district, said after attending a candidate forum Tuesday. “If we have two Republicans running I think I’m going back to Canada.”

California voters head to the polls on June 5.

Most of the commercials have candidates running against Trump not for anything. It is ridiculous. No matter how low the position, they pledge to fight Trump.

No, the only way Democrats can retake the House is for Republicans to stay at home and not vote.

You need Republicans to show up at the primary so that they GOP can finish 1-2, leaving out the Democrats. Great if it could happen but history says we’re not motivated. Remember Arnold’s special election? 5 CONSERVATIVE measures on the ballot. All for the taking. WE didn’t show up. He became a lefty after that. Wouldn’t even support McLintock for Lt. Gov. when he ran for re-election. He could of resigned hand McLintock moves up. The rest would have been history. Defeat from the jaws of victory once again. Republicans are stupid.

No leader, no policies, Chuck & Nancy as their faces, coddling MS-13 gangsters ... the ads this fall will be devastating, and the Dems will go down in a smouldering heap

When the IC reports start coming out, even the progressive news bubble will have to report on the democrat scandals. We need to help make it a long, demoralizing summer that will keep democrats home on election day.

And Cali just might change the primary rules at the last minute or even after the fact. They control the entire government in that state and New Jersey can do it so Cali surely could do it.

does the author have ANY idea just how pervasive the Californcation mass-media propaganda machine is... on TV, radio, and the few remaining newspapers?

it is 24/7/365 anti-conservative, anti-R, anti-Trump, anti-anything good for America

and does the author know how the One Party keeps its control in Californiation by rigging the ballot to list, nearly all the time, only two commie-Pinko Leftwing D candidates and NOBODY ELSE (yes, most offices on the CA ballot do NOT show any R candidates)

these Stalinist controls will, imho, have to be busted up... before ANYONE other than a hardcore commie or Nazi type D has any real chance in CA (except by complete and rare fluke)

Nonsense. There is a large group of hyper liberals who will vote for these jokers no matter what to mention nothing of the immigrant populace. CA stands for Crazy America.

Seems like you're almost spoiled, dreaming for the moon and the starts. You want the primary... IN CALIFORNIA... to be so lopsided towards Republicans that the votes fall perfectly so that they take the top two spots in the "jungle primary".

How about we get at least one, and they win in NOV? Getting both spots would be nice, but it would be fantasy to presume that the votes and the candidates all split the votes exactly right so that the GOP finishes 1-2, and doesn't even need to compete in NOV.

I've heard that promise before. Do they ever go back though?

They all stayed here to take advantage of Trump's tax cuts.

I have three pro Trump German Shepherds, but they don’t run loose and harass people. They work for their kibble and know how to deter evildoers with a good show of strength.

Second, there’s the continued positive news on the economic front.

Darn it. AND Cally's Pelosi needs your crumbs back because she can spend it better than anyone else. The RATS need to look past this election and find a way to be needed. That should keep them busy.

Sadly, I think Paul Ryan is working for the Dems .
He is quietly pushing Daca for his owners the Koch Bros and the C of C .
This entire Daca push is funded by the Ryan Close Gop Reps /
Insiders .

The Koches are plotting for the Trump impeachment by
the Dems .

Trump needs to warn to Ryan and his libs to stop .
