Nukes? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Nukes!

Since October 2017, cops have seized enough Chinese fentanyl to kill 20 million Americans, roughly equivalent to every man, woman & child in New York State.

And I gotta tell you the users were goin down at a pretty good clip in my part of NY state for a couple years, I haven’t heard a whole lot in the last year so either thing have settled down or they are just covering it up.

I developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (also known as Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome) nearly 17 years ago, after a botched surgery. One of things my pain management doctor had me try was a transdermal fentanyl patch at the locus of the pain.

I don’t recall how much fentanyl the patch contained, but it provided no pain relief for me whatsoever. That was way before we started hearing about how lethal the drug can be at such relatively miniscule doses.

It took a long time, and lots of trial and error, for us to come up with a pain-reducing drug “cocktail” that would allow me to have at least some quality of life. Now I have to feel like a criminal for taking hydrocodone and gabapentin, and guilty for being “dependent” on a couple of anti-depressants, as well. Sigh!

I have the solution for the opioid epidemic: outlaw naloxone (Narcan). Overdose on opioids, you’re dead - no rescue, no reversal. I work in an urban ER and I get really tired of seeing the same losers rescued over and over again so they can go out and steal more stuff to support their heroin/fentanyl addiction. That would solve a lot of the homeless “problem” too.

"Fentanyl has virtually no medicinal purpose."

Well, it does really. It's a remedy for nausea and seizures. It cures cancer and quite a few other problems. It even cures drug addiction.

;-)

If a person is stupid enough to take that poison, they’re stupid enough to suffer the consequences.

Uh, technically, Acetaminophen is not an ingredient in Hydrocodone. Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone are ingredients in “combination” painkillers like Norco / Vicodin, which contain both Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone.

Norco is 5 mg of Hydrocodone plus 325 mg of Acetaminophen. If you take a bunch of ‘em in a short time, the Acetaminophen is actually more likely to kill you, or at least fatally damage your liver, than the Hydrocodone is likely to kill you. (I suppose if you really take a lot, say, 30 or 40(?), the Hydrocodone will shut down your respiration first.)

Medicinal fentanyl is not measured in ounces, but milligrams. A quick search shows numerous seizures over a hundred pounds—one 270 pounds. If someone can justify this amount from a medical perspective, please educate me.

As far as I can see, fentanyl in these forms and amounts is the equivalent of a massive chemical agent. When used as a cutting agent, it is obviously almost impossible to ensure an even distribution, thus the drastic increase in ODs. A controlled environment such as a lab or hospital is one thing, but possessing these amounts on the street should be treated as an imminent terroristic threat.

If there is no intent to use it as an agent of mass destruction, how can you possibly want such a powerful centralized government as to stop a lawful citizen from having illegal drugs of their choice?

You are quite the irrational pro-drug defender, aren’t you?

This is a whole lot crazier than you might think. One person can place enough addictive drugs to achieve overdosing for 26 million people in the back seat of his car. Think about that for a minute. Heck, I don’t even think you can have near enough weaponized nuclear material that size that can kill a fraction of that many people.

There is death sentence and twenty yeqars in the comfort of the appeals.

First must come the erradication of the appelate lawyers who enrichthemselves for cut and dried foot dragging

I really don’t think practicing addicts go out nowadays and says “I’m going to get high on fentanyl. It is used for cutting heroin. And anymore this is really really deadly. The user never sees what is coming.

“Legal opiod use is proper medicne.”

Not when drugs previously used for end-stage cancer pain management are then marketed for use by anyone with virtually any ache or pain.

This is exactly what the producers of Oxycontin did in the 90’s, while claiming is was not addictive.
