A Portland family contacted Amazon to investigate after they say a private conversation in their home was recorded by Amazon's Alexa -- the voice-controlled smart speaker -- and that the recorded audio was sent to the phone of a random person in Seattle, who was in the familys contact list.
"My husband and I would joke and say I'd bet these devices are listening to what we're saying," said Danielle, who did not want us to use her last name.
Every room in her family home was wired with the Amazon devices to control her home's heat, lights and security system.

Just a little glitch in the software, nothing to see here..................move along, sheeple...................
Refrigerators and toasters are now connected to the Internet....................
Remember the Yakov Smirnoff joke, “In Russia, Television Watches You.”
Well, it’s reality now....Everywhere!
“Damn it feels good to be a gangsta!”
Try this experiment:
Leave it in a room with a TV tuned to Univision for a few days.
I betcha within a few days you’ll have ads in Spanish being streamed at you out your wazoo.
It wouldn’t surprise me if that happened.
I listen to OTR Dragnet on YouTube a lot. They mostly have Fatima and Chesterfield cigarette ads.
No cigarette ads but probably flooded with stuff for quitting. Plus ones for criminal attorneys, all that crime it would hear.
“On the other hand, I asked Google last night when it was going to rain.”

your message sounds like Google is a person. You passively believed what this google told you and acted.
I bet you use GPS system to tell you where to drive. And I bet when you are confused, you stop in the middle of the road or freeway trying to figure out what GPS meant by go left.
I bet you couldn’t follow a map and highway signs to save your life.
My Fire tablet pops up Alexa when I issue an Alexa command on my Echo or Dot(s).
So maybe someone else in your household, on your account, has issued a command whenever Alexa pops up on your tablet. Does it show that it just executed a command?
My Bluetooth speaker for my pool area just burned up a few days ago. My wife and I were TALKING about getting a new one. No other means.
Bingo! Today I get emails and pop ups from Amazon for Bluetooth speakers.
We are putting our phones inside a 100db box when we are at home from now on.
That’s weird.
I have an office with six other electricians. We have done experiments in conversation to test this. Late at night we will talk about squirrels in the attic, how to get rid of moles, and surfing, all at the same time. Sure enough comes ads for pest control and Free Florida Beach vacation.........
Its not weird when you understand how our new world looks at the individual. Our real time life content is being used a hundred times a day. Remember the old “do you agree to these terms?” Box we check off.........
#12 Ask Siri “I want the USA back”
Maybe she will comply or turn you in to the gov’t as some sort of radical : )
LOL! How would I get on FR, if I used your method? (They know they have a captive, dependent audience/victim, don’t they? Ham radio, anyone? Morse code?
I know all of that. I get that nothing is private any more. Still, I’m old enough to still think that’s “weird”.
Technology. It’s a blessing ... and a curse. At Grandma’s house up until I was a teenager, when the phone rang “two longs and a short”, we knew the call was for her. Other ring configurations were for others on the party line and we knew not to answer those calls. We’ve come a long way, Baby. And not necessarily for the better, huh?
