TBI to investigate Bradley County SWAT raid on wrong house
Chattanooga Times Free Press ^ | May 22nd, 2018 | Staff report

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been asked to look into an incident where a Bradley County SWAT team burst into the wrong house while searching for a homicide suspect.

Steve Crump, district attorney in the 10th Judicial District, said he asked the state agency to look into the incident.

A spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office was tight-lipped Tuesday afternoon, not mentioning the error in a news release to the Times Free Press.

"Earlier this morning, the Bradley County Sheriff's Office assisted a federal agency with executing a federal search warrant which led to the arrest of a male who was wanted for murder in Washington County, TN," spokesman James E. Bradford Jr. said in the emailed release. "No other details are available at this time since the investigation is still on-going."

The heavily armed SWAT team members were looking for 27-year-old Monte Lamar Brewer Jr. when they burst through the door of Spencer Renck's Lynncrest Drive house shortly before 6 a.m., Renck told WRCB-Channel 3.

I first saw this on Twitter, on a site that turned out to be labeled as "fake news". That does not mean the story is not real.

Found it in this local report and it is similar. But with fewer details.

The victim has a Facebook page (I have never been on Facebook). You can look that up and find more details if you like.

This type of no knock raid "mistake" should never ever be allowed to happen.

In my opinion, 'no knock' warrants are a violation of the Constitution, specifically the 4th Amendment.

Unfortunately they do happen.

But I agree that they should never happen. There may be some justification of no knock raids, but to do that with the wrong address is clear sign of not enough thought. It mentioned a federal agency involved? I suspect that is the driving force.

Our house was raided by the King County SWAT team shortly after we moved in around 25 years ago. I was at work, my wife was at home recovering from foot surgery. She is 5’4” and 100 pounds. She was held against a wall with a gun pointed at her head while the rest of the rifle wielding cowboys ran all around our house making a lot of noise and a huge mess.

My wife was very concerned about the safety of our three dogs. Fortunately they were all contained at the time of the “attack”. It was of course a total screw up, but they had a warrant with our address signed by a judge looking for someone who never had any relation to our home. We never received any sort of rational explanation, apology or compensation for the damage they caused.

“We never received any sort of rational explanation, apology or compensation for the damage they caused.”

That’s what they were hoping would happen. You missed the boat by not suing them at the time of the incident. The only way this stuff stops is when it gets enough attention, and it costs government large sums of money!

If you are the victim, and you shoot the intruders to defend yourself, they will shoot you into small pieces. Your action is justified. Theirs is murder, and there is no excuse. Issuing a letter of apology is not enough. Prosecution for murder is the only solution.

Yes, and I will not retract.

Obama wanted a Federal Police force as well financed and armed as our military. That was illegal (never stopped him before), so he put SWAT Teams in most Federal Agencies. They need to be eliminated and only State and local governments should have them. And the number of those must be very small.

In my opinion, 90% of the SWAT Teams are not justified.

I’m sorry. And thanks for a real world report supporting how bad this whole thing is with “SWAT” teams. Especially those connected with Federal Agencies.

Liberal censors are labeling all sites that are somewhat conservative as “fake news”, intentionally poisoning the well and discouraging people from viewing those sites.

It is compounded by warning about violence when reporting crimes liberal sites won’t do, and it reinforces liberal censorship because what liberals WILL NOT report like Clinton’s health problems and scandals is labeled “fake” or “biased” when it comes up on conservative news sites.

I disagree. Our legal system is now so completely screwed up that everything that it touches gets distorted and the results have little if any positive benefit. In general the only persons who benefit from the legal system are lawyers and politicians. Suing the SWAT team would probably have turned into a huge hassle; it might have got us a little compensation but no positive changes would likely have been made.

I don’t watch TV at all.

So I don’t know much about Police type movies.

Federal police efforts scare the crap out of me. Over many years I’ve observed the disasters that happen when Policing is controlled from a distance. Too often the damage is a disaster, where the target is not really threatening.

I will resist listing them, almost everyone on FR has seen the discussion before.

The MSM and web content filters are being programmed for propaganda purposes. It took a big leap toward that during the ObamaNation.

Government money = your money, your family's money, your neighbors' money. It has to cost the government workers involved personally or it will continue apace.

today there are simply too many ways to check, double check, and triple check to make sure this never happens to the point that the leaders should be brought up on charges of dereliction of duty.
