Robert Mueller, You’re Starting to Scare Me
New York Times ^ | 22 May 2018 | Frank Bruni

Posted on 05/23/2018 3:48:15 AM PDT by Magnatron

Imagine for a moment that Robert Mueller was never pressed into service as a special counsel and wasn’t a household name. Imagine that there had never been any prompt for his investigation — that Donald Trump hadn’t blown all those kisses at Vladimir Putin, that the stooges and grifters around Trump hadn’t swooned at the prospect of sucking on Mother Russia’s teat, or that there’d been no offer of milk in the first place.

What would we be focusing on right now?

Maybe the just-published Politico report of Trump’s deliberate, cavalier use of a cellphone that doesn’t have strict security safeguards would be getting extra attention. The story outraged me, because it’s yet another glaring example of Trump’s dual set of rules — proper ones that apply to others and nonexistent ones that let him and his clan do as they please — and it puts the lie to his supposed horror over Hillary Clinton’s sloppy email habits. Not for the first time or for the last, he’s being a raving hypocrite.

-snip-

Mueller’s journey down certain tributaries strikes even some observers who aren’t Trump partisans as invasive and punitive. His crawl and sprawl have also given the president the time and the trove of details that he needs to refine his tactics for delegitimizing the investigation. His shameless effort has evolved in sophistication from the reflexive yelp of “witch hunt” to more elaborate and alluring conspiracy theories, including the scenario of espionage within his campaign.

And Trump’s storytelling has takers. A CBS News poll several weeks ago showed that fewer Americans believed Mueller’s investigation to be legitimate (44 percent) than to be politically driven (53 percent).

Perhaps more Americans would notice what Trump is doing to the judiciary, by which I mean stacking it, and to important government agencies, by which I mean gutting them.

Bingo

Mueller and Russia, Russia and Mueller: This is the drumbeat, sometimes deafening and often drowning out all else. It’s the yardstick whose measurement has come to matter more than any other, the one test that Trump must pass.

Huh? What is the measurement?

And he knows that if Americans are fixated on collusion, they aren’t concentrating on much else. That’s good for him and terrible for the country.

Which is why he let’s Mueller continue.

While the asshats on your side are fixated on the stupidity of Trump, he just boss his head, puts his shoulder into it and pushes through the noise making an accomplishment here, there everywhere and in plain sight but, they never notice because they are to focused on being a victim.

Buyer’s remorse. They see how their own petards have been situated for hoisting.

Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t have his own private security checking his ‘personal electronics’ at least once a day. It just seems like a reasonable security precaution a top-drawer businessman would be taking.

For 50 years, Trump has been doing high-dollar deals and having to be always conscious of corporate espionage. He knows enough to never say anything "sensitive" on a phone, and to never assume his conversation is secure, even on a supposedly "secure" phone.

750 words to rip Trump and 50 to say people are getting tired of Mueller.

Frank Bruni is only being a concern troll here.
He loves Muller but wants to appear impartial. Not buying it.

What the hell is Trump supposed to do, use the ‘secure lines’ which seem to spill out to CNN the moment he hangs up?

Yet, they don’t utter a word at Hillary taking a 145MM commission on the sale of Uranium One to terrible Russia, while she was Secy of State. The hypocrisy can swamp a battleship.

The press has a big role in this. They are complicit in the silence in protecting Dems, that is what is sickening.

They wonder why no one believes them. They are liars who have chosen sides.

And if Trump had Obama’s press he would be Abraham Lincoln. They would be carving his head in Rushmore already.

Republicans +6?

I consider a generic poll of Democrats +4 to be a 50/50 race.

Republicans +6?

If that holds, the GOP will clobber the Dems in Nov.

Much of the diminishing of the Constitution could have been prevented by Sessions.

He did a disservice to the nation.

Even though the Mueller Investigation could arguabley be a help to Trump, it has hurt America and set a terrible precedent. They still dont have a crime, and Mueller cannot prove anything about Russia. When you look at his questions, they seem political, clearly not fact based. He is not an investigator but more like a Spanish Iquisitor, questioning what a victims faith is, or political beliefs rather than facts in a specific crime.

They did have spies, and still no evidence.

The whole Mueller catastrophe was manufactured by the DNC deep state. It is a disgrace.

We understand why you’re emotional about this, Bruni. You have a lot at stake with Mueller’s fake “investigation.” But you had best swallow the bitter pill now, because Trump isn’t willing to take a pummeling with his hands tied behind his back. He’s returning fire. And your dirty buddies at DOJ, FBI, CIA, NSA, DNC, etc., etc. aren’t going to be able to bring this witch hunt off.

Just go into a safe space room, turn down the lights, light a candle while gazing at a picture of Soetoro and Moochelle, and breathe deeply.

if the top intel departments are trying to delegitimize your presidency, it makes sense to have a communications device that is not susceptible to their hacking...

And doesn’t Giuliani’s company specialize in cyber security? I figure the cell phone issue isn’t an issue. Although it is scary how a cell phone can be compromised remotely.
