First off, I absolutely detest Michael Bloomberg. I do not subscribe totally to his thoughts on this; however, too large a swath of the public has been completely removed from federal income tax liability, even though I do not like the system of taxing income because it penalizes productivity.

That is too many people that have no skin in the game. It makes them utterly disinterested in political discourse. That is bad. Every voter needs to be concerned about how the Swamp takes and divides the tax spoils. Everybody ought to contribute something to the federal budget in the primary revenue raising method, even if it is only $50. Tax bases should not be narrow and very deep, but broad and relatively shallow. Narrow tax bases are used as political weapons. That is not good for the country.

You can’t do that unless you eliminate all the write offs and loop holes the 50% who pay use to escape their taxes...

....”I don’t see how it’s Constitutional to make “the rich” pay a greater percentage of income than the middle class or poor”.....

But do they after their tax write offs etc? I think not.

I think taxes should be raised on lower income people, but for different reasons.

If you don’t have skin in the game there is no incentive for you to oppose any increases in government spending.

So he complains that “these people” don’t have enough money...and his solution is for the government to take more of what little they have - at gunpoint (because that’s what taxes are, in the final analysis).

FUMB! Arrogant prick.

Well his arrogance is clearly heard....however it’s an interesting thread of posts in how people here see tax’s.

I, too, believe that everyone needs to have some skin in the game by paying some income taxes.

I’d favor the elimination of withholding taxes - let people pay taxes on a quarterly basis, or even just on April 15. That will REALLY change how people view the government operates and spends OUR money.

I’m still on the fence .....there’s far too many loop holes and write offs the very wealthy can take and do....to where they actually pay far less % than others without those advantages.

Michael Bloomberg: “Some people say, well, taxes are regressive. But in this case, yes they are. That's the good thing about them because the problem is in people that don't have a lot of money. And so, higher taxes should have a bigger impact on their behavior and how they deal with themselves. Bloomberg had a a/c unit on a stand hauled around and plugged into his Suburban SUV after he was criticized for running his SUV for up to an hour while he was in a meeting inside a a/c office building. His response was to have his security roll up a portable a/c unit to the car window and plug the cord in at the office building. He could then say the SUV was not running anymore.

This is a typical democratic mentality. They are divorced from the hardship they cause people with a limited budget or they just do not care. From what I have heard from Bloomberg, he does not have much to work with.
