About that FBI ‘Source’
WSJ ^ | 5/10/18 | Kimberly A. Strassel

Posted on 05/10/2018 6:38:50 PM PDT by Brilliant

The Department of Justice lost its latest battle... when it allowed House Intelligence Committee members to view classified documents about a top-secret intelligence source that was part of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump campaign. Even without official confirmation of that source’s name, the news so far holds some stunning implications...

Among them is that the Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation outright hid critical information from a congressional investigation...

The bureau already has some explaining to do. Thanks to the... leakers, we know Mr. Nunes’s request deals with a “top secret intelligence source”... who is a U.S. citizen and who was involved in the Russia collusion probe... we might take this to mean that the FBI secretly had a person... to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.

This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting. It would also be a major escalation from the electronic surveillance we already knew about... Obama political appointees rampantly “unmasked” Trump campaign officials... Now we find it may have also been rolling out human intelligence, John Le Carré style, to infiltrate the Trump campaign...

When? The bureau has been doggedly sticking with its story that a tip in July 2016 about the drunken ramblings of George Papadopoulos launched its counterintelligence probe... When precisely was the Steele dossier delivered to the FBI? When precisely did the Papadopoulos information come in?

And to the point, when precisely was this human source operating? Because if it was prior to that infamous Papadopoulos tip, then the FBI isn’t being straight. It would mean the bureau was spying on the Trump campaign prior to that moment. And that in turn would mean that the FBI had been spurred to act on the basis of something other than a junior campaign aide’s loose lips...

Domestic spying on political parties by the government in power is how Hitler got his start with the National Socialist Party. That is or should be strictly prohibited. The entire group running the CIA & FBI as well as those in the Obama administration & DNC should go to jail. We can’t have tolerate this as a country.

No. Think about it. They had the Papadopoulos info. They wanted to see if they could get Trump to bite so they put Page up for bait. It didn’t work so they sent Page to Russia to see if he could get info that way as Steele did. That didn’t work and then they ask Steele to find out if Page met with anyone in Russia as a test of Steele’s work. Steele says he did. I don’t know if that was seen as confirmation of Steele’s work or refutation. Depends on whether Page met with someone. But in any event the whole thing makes the Page allegations in the GPS dossier pointless since it was all a set up anyway.

I’m betting on Page. He had Russian contacts, probably had worked for the FBI before and was easy to get the FISA on. He also is walking around un-indicted. This is truly an evil plot.

House investigators nonetheless sniffed out a name, and Mr. Nunes in recent weeks issued a letter and a subpoena demanding more details.

This would suggest it's not Carter Page. Page's name has already been out on the table for some time, would not need to be "sniffed out."

Kim wonders when this FBI operation actually started, was it prior to the July 2016 Papadopoulos drinks night when the FBI claimed it started?

I would guess that John Brennan's meeting in Moscow on March 14 with the Russian FSB intel service had something to do with starting it.

By mid-March Jeb had pulled out and it looked like Trump would be it on the Republican side.

Brennan went to his counterparts in the Russian intel agency and probably asked what they had on Trump.

Either one of two things may have happened: Ivan had little to offer so Brennan hatched the idea of fabricating Russian dirt and injecting it into the FBI; or Ivan gave Brennan a dossier of disinformation while trying to conceal their snickers as they handed it to him, and Brennan then laundered it through Steele.

My guess is that the wiretap was just standard operating procedure for a source, like a mandatory lie detector.

What your are describing is an investigator, not an informant.
An informant to me would be someone within Trump’s inner circle.

Maybe Q will tell us.
I’m being sarcastic.

Easy. Follow the billionaires’ money. Soros, and a bunch of others have been funding all this out of the gate.

The whole story about Page being an asset for years. Then just before the Trump run starting not being an IC asset.

Then suddenly he joins the Trump campaign and needed to be snooped on. Very Fishy it seemed at the time.

Never well explained since.

Who do you think it is?

One thing I know for sure ... Jared Kushner has been almost invisible for months now.

The sniffing relates less to the name and more to what he was doing. They’ve been portraying Carter as someone who joined Trumps staff and then embarrassed him or worse. This suggests that he was a CIA spy all along. So it’s a fraud on the justice system and on the American people.

ok, FISA was to be used as corroboration of their source.
Then, when their conspiracy went south, because neither Page nor the wiretaps produced anything, they turned their source into a Russian colluder. And when that didn’t fly, they went to Shackapopoulos.

When did Page become a CIA asset I wonder? I would not be surprised if it was when he worked for Merrill in Moscow. It would be the perfect cover and would explain why they are worried about exposing their operatives. But I’d say the cat is out of the bag in any event now.
